Egg in water bowl

My female firewater just laid her first egg, and it was in her water bowl. I knew she was getting close so i've been checking on her and the egg couldn't have been in there for more than 30 minutes tops. what are the odds the egg will hatch? i had a large hide in her tub with eco earth and the temps were right on, so not sure why she laid there. the egg looks really healthy and i've been watching it for the past few days. any advice would be appreciated. thanks.

i am not sure if the egg will hatch but was the humid hide moist enough? sometimes if a hide is dry they will lay in the water dish looking for a moist place. (some others are just weird like that), also some will lay infetiles outside the laybox including the waterdish.

yeah the hide was really moist, ive been misting it daily just to make sure it was good for her to lay in. i thought maybe that a "reject" would be a possibility, but i candled the egg and think i can see something there. guess its just a waiting game now

I've had eggs laid in the water dish that have hatched (my hides are always moist, some just lay in weird spots). Good luck!

That would be so cool if it rhymed...

When I first clicked on the thread, I was trying to think of a rhymey way to say that, but alas, I am not the clever.

I agree with the poet Robin.

When there's debate, INCUBATE
If there's a chance they did mate, then be sure to incubate.
If there's a chance they did the deed, then you better incubate the seed.

So this is how I'm going to spend my day. Making incubation rhymes.

Blackadder, I like the first rhyme best. Short and sweet. Of course, now I will be thinking up rhymes for the rest of the day, too!

Shawn, be sure to let us know whether or not the egg hatches. I hope it does!

I bow to you, for you are far more clever than I, and have invented not one, but three pithy rhymes to remind me to incubate my eggs. :main_thumbsup:

the egg seems to be ok, but she's weird i guess cause i just found the second egg in her calcium dish. i just swapped out the eco earth with orchid moss in all my tubs and tanks. hopefully that should fix the issue. i also found another set of eggs today from my DB x het DB pairing.

If you caught it in time it should be fine. I had one layed in a water dish this year and the baby hatched out fine.
