Egg Laying Issues

Alright so my female has laid one egg. She still has another egg inside her. I was wondering how long I should wait before this is a problem or do they sometimes lay one egg and then maybe the second at a later time. She is from Kelli and was a proven breeder. If that other egg inside her becomes a problem at what point should I become worried or what would a vet do to resolve the problem?

Thanks,
Jeff Cornelisse

Hello over there in Little Rhody! I miss living there! :)

I've heard of a few people that report geckos having eggs a day or two apart (most here on this forum, some clients) I really wouldn't worry too much unless your gecko starts acting abnormally...most of the time when they're egg bound even a very beginner is able to tell there's something wrong...they arch their back, get lethargic, regurgitate, soak in their water dish, etc. But if you're POSITIVE she's still got another egg in her, I wouldn't let it go more than 5 or 6 days without calling a vet.

To answer your other question, the veterinarian would most likely examine the gecko, take an X-Ray or two to see the position/size of the egg, and give an injection (or two) to help her lay the egg (similar to what they give women to induce labor)

Sometimes they only form one egg at a time so the one that you can see inside her may just be the next one forming which she would lay in a couple of weeks.
