OK so I work as a vet tech at a exotic clinic and the other day someone brought in their leopard gecko in really bad condition (ive seen worse but still not great) he had stuck shed all over his face, debris in his eyes, is missing quite a few toes, has his eyes closed and is very very skinny. (Ill go into more detail in a minute) the lady at the end decided to surrender the gecko and I took him because I am an experienced reptile keeper and I am also a vet tech to give him a better chance at making it.

  • TEMOPORARY HOUSING: I keep lots of reptiles and am experienced in their care and have lots of supplies however I am away from my home base where I keep all my extra stuff until January 13th. I have never had a Leo before but I have access to the internet and will have no problem getting him a proper setup when I get back but for now I have him in a temporary 10 gallon sort of critical care tank with paper towels a very shallow water dish and a hide with a heat mat under it.

  • HEALTH ISSUES OBSERVED: I have attached some pictures but here are all the issues he has: 1. He wont open his eyes (potentially due to some stuck shed) 2. He wont eat right now on his own. 3. He has a weird bulge near his cloaca and vet is not sure what is causing it as he tried to express it and nothing came out or was visible, they though he had an impacted hemipene but did not see anything internally that indicated so. 4. and what I believe to be the main issue is that he is supposedly an adult but only weighs about 26g.

  • TREATMENT SO FAR:
    • AT CLINIC: potential sperm plug was examined (none found) and hemipene observed and nothing visibly wrong besides the bulge. Stuck shed around face was removed and eyes were flushed.
    • IN MY CARE: I gave him 2 days to get acclimated to reduce stress, every day since (has been about 2 days) I have been flushing/ lubricating his eyes with a sodium chloride solution and giving ofloxacin eye drops once a day. Last night I offered 1cc of a slurry of repashys grub pie by mouth he seemed to lap it up willingly but in the morning I noticed not all but some of it maybe pooped out or vomited out on the glass and the paper towels, I also offered mealworms but since he cannot see he will not eat them.
Overall he is very alert and active but Im still very worried about him and would appreciate any and all advice yall could give me. If you have supplements or food I should try I can order stuff online or get them at pet stores.

Get some mealworms or crickets, squish them (1 at a time is best) and feed him the guts. I assume he's been tested for cryptosporidiosis. Give him drops of water if he's not drinking on his own.
