His eye has literally been ripped out??

I would make sure to put it in a safe container with nothing but paper towels or something softer that has no loose particles so that it won't get damaged further and make sure it's properly heated. That sounds truly awful.

As a disclaimer though I have no experience with this sort of situation, but I'd be personally worried about foreign matter entering the wound or it hurting itself further.

I would agree with the above. If there are open wounds then try to clean them (not sure if you should use betadine or just warm water, maybe someone else can answer that) then put him in a smallish container with damp paper towel and maybe a soft silk plant. Make sure there is nothing that he can further injure himself on and just leave him alone until you can go to the vet.

A gecko sauna might help as well, to ensure your gecko is well-hydrated.

Do you have any pets that could have injured your gecko?

Do you have any pictures of your gecko?

It does sound terrible. :( Do get it to the vet ASAP, but in the meantime, as others have said, move your gecko to a 'hospital tank' with just paper towel, fake plants, and food and water, and leave him be.

If your gecko got caught by a cat its probably a goner.
Cat bites cause infections like 75% of the time.
Euthanasia would be my choice of action.

oh thats horrible!
i hope hes okay!
i agree with the others, reasonably small container, keep him warm and maybe covered up to help reduce shock.

Update on your gecko? :(

I think it's too soon to talk about putting it down without knowing what exactly may of caused those injuries. It could have been a misjudged jump and resulting fall that did it...

To an inexperienced keeper, or someone who doesn't know how to properly care for the injury, the eye could very well be a death sentence (especially since infection sounds very likely). Why haven't we gotten any updates from the person who started the thread? Pics would help decide what should be done, or at least some details about how it is now.

After working at a vet clinic for many years, an eye ball HANGING from the animals face is indeed a death sentence (in most cases).

I'm sure with the high chance of infection that is true, but SOMETIMES there is a chance that they pull through. I am assuming that from the lack of updates that this one probably didn't make it.

I realize this isn't a gecko, but my female pugs eye was dislocated and hanging out of her eye socket when she was around 4 months old. We rushed her to an emergency clinic and they easily removed the eye and she came home in a few days. She has adjusted to life with one eye and is now 6 years old. We were told this is a very common issue with pugs. I know this is about a gecko, but its not a death sentence to loose an eye. If it is taken to a vet (in this case if it was) there is, in my opinion, a chance the animal can be saved if the person was willing to pay for the surgery.

Geckos and Pugs are not even close to the same.
Many times eye balls can be lubed and pushed back into the socket with a dog.
Thats not the case with geckos.
