I have been ordering my crix from Russells, Crazy Carl, and once from Flukers.
They are all very reliable, but every time I order say, 3/8'' size, I get like 60% pins. I cant find a vender that sells crix of a CONSISTENT size.

So now I have all these pins that I cant do anything with.
Many of them die before they get a chance to grow up. You know how fragile farm raised crix are, they die if you yell "BOO"!! I am stuffing them with as much food as I can to make them hurry up and GROW!!! :main_rolleyes:

Can anyone PLEASE recommend a online dealer that can properly sort the cricket sizes??

Now that my guys are growing up, I will need to switch to 1/2'', but when I order 500, I dont want 300 of them to be pins!! :main_no:

Please help with any suggestions :)
Thanks loads guys :main_yes:

I would recommend for a start that you email crazy carl. I have found him extremely responsive in the past and maybe he could be helpful.

I know how you feel nats. I have a couple hatchlings that would NOT touch mealworms, so I've been having to go with crickets lately. I didn't have time to order, so I went to my local pet store (I know the owners well), and picked up 3 dozen. I quickly realized their "medium" sized crickets were super tiny pinheads, so I had to MYSELF go in the back and pick out my 3 dozen. She told me they have been having a problem with all of their suppliers sending them smaller than normal sizes.

Yeah I dont know how they sort them, but this is very frustrating.

Maybe I can stick a bunch together and make a cricket ball!! :main_rolleyes:

While farm raised cricks are more fragile, no argument, you shouldn't have THAT high a mortaility rate. What are you feeding them? Are they getting enough moisture? I keep my pinheads at 85F and provide moisture through carrots, potatoes, and "poorly hydrated" water crystals (so pinheads don't get stuck in the gel). The only time I have any loses is if I get some condensation, pinheads always find a way to drown themselves if they get a chance.

If you can work out why they are dying, getting a mix of correct size and smaller cricks can be a good thing, as you'll have correctly sized cricks over a longer time period.

P.S.: Someone needs to invent a cricket sorter that works like those change sorters. :)

Hi rcobourn, thank's for the comments.

Yeah, I think the problem is they are too cold! I have my dubias in the same room and I have a UTH for them. I guess I will have to get another for the crix since all my feeders are in a rather cool basement.

Well, I feed them Flukers Cricket Chow, Flukers water gel stuff, organic grown carrots, apples and greens (when I have it). I also put a little ground dry cat food in there for a little protean.

I have a big, like 20gal plastic tub and a bunch of those egg crate things for them to hide in.

They seem happy, when there not dying!! :D
