Ok this morning on the news I herd that the moon last night was closer to the earth than it has been in over 15 years. And I have been noticing that on every full moon my geckos are really active and they act really aggressive at night. But last night was the worst they have ever been in a long long time, I took out five of my geckos (not knowing it was a full moon) because my mom likes to play with them while I change there paper towels. And my mom was saying that they were acting strange and two of my geckos that are usualy seperated but most of the time get along fine got into a struggle one gecko ran at another and grabed ahold of the other gecko by the neck and started shaking it's head from side to side. My mom started screaming and yelled for me. I ran into the room and saw what was going on and I started freaking out, One gecko was literaly trying to kill the other Its tail was shaking like he was about to drop it, and he was squealing. Bear in mind that this may seem cruel but the gecko was going to die. I tried to pry the atacking geckos mouth open with my hand but his grip was way to strong and I didnt want to hurt him. My mom grabed a glass of watter and splashed it on the two geckos we did that two or three times. It did'nt even phaze them. so we started spraying them with a mister, all this time I was trying to get his jaw open and everyone in my house was screaming. The gecko being atacked was now bleeding, so we put them in the bathtub and ran water over them and they finaly stoped after about five minutes of a living hell (By this time I was crying that my gecko was going to die). So I made sure the geckos were seperated and the one that atacked was'nt bleeding anymore and he was not wet from the water and he was comforted he was in total shock. After about 30 minutes of calming the gecko down and cleaning up his cuts I put neosporin on his cuts and put him back in his cage with no other geckos, and all the geckos were seperated before I went to sleep this whole thing haped at 9:30 at night. So I'm wondering if anyone has had trouble with there geckos on full moons? It's hapend to me a couple times but never as bad as last night... So all input is apreciated.

Thanks TY

I know it sounds stupid but they have been all freaked out every full moon ever since I got them. And is it just a coincadince that the night that the moon was closer to the earth thatn is has been in 15 years my geckos tried to kill eachother.

they were both males but the thing is that I have had them in close contact even around females and I have had no trouble at all and this time the females were nowhere around the males. Plus they were not close to eachother one just ran straight to the other one and attacked the other one.

yeah he looks ok today he still seems a little freked out though...

That is insane. I have two right now, one male and one female and I think I would have had a heart attack seeing them like that.

I am sure in a week or so he/she should be just fine. Swab the cuts with a damp Qtip, just to prevent infection. ^^

Jeez! I hope your geckos are alright! :(

And, now that you mention it, last night Tiamat was unusually active. She wasn't afraid or aggressive or anything she was just all over the place in her tank. I thought it was because I had adjusted the temps so that they were slightly higher, but looking back on it now, some of her activity could have been due to the influence of the full moon and it's proximity to the Earth. There's no doubt in my mind that animals are more sensitive to that sort of thing than most humans.

How old are your boys? Maybe they are getting old enough to learn another male = threat? Keep applying a generous amount of neosporin on the wound, that'll keep it from infection. I think your boys will heal very soon!

Just curious, the spray bottle did make him release his bite on the other gecko?

you know what I just had that same problem on the same day. I have two geckos that have been together for 3 years since birth they were best friends I swear. when I would try seperateing them they both stopped eating and acted depressed, so I just kept them together. Any way the night the moon was full they got into a scrap and it was bad they have never had a problem, But they did this time they were acting so weird though very unusual for them. In this struggle one lost its tail, and the weird thing is her tail didnt get bit or any thing she just dropped it as the two bit each others necks, it was'nt bad enough to draw blood but the fact the tail dropped it was strong enough. I was just sick but they were acting so weird all night even after that trying to climb the walls in the inlosure. Well thats my experiance.

the two geckos were both 9 months old and I know the fact that they were both males but they have been close to eachother and even played together fine. But on friday they went crazy. And no the spray bottle didnt do a thing we had to put them under the water in the bathtub then they let go.
