Eye infection? Rusty eyes...won't open

A week or so ago we cleaned the cage. changed the carpet etc. I also had to replace the underneath cage heater. She shed right after that. After that she became kind of lethargic. She seems to do this seasonally occasionally so I didn't pay much attention to her. Well by Thurs she just wasn't do anything. Friday morning I noticed that she wouldn't open her eyes.
I gently washed them and she opened them a little but they are all dark and rusty colored. I washed them all weekend but I don't notice much difference. We don't have any vets near by that I can take her too.
She is fat. I did get her to eat a few worms the other day. I have been using a dropper for water in case she isn't drinking. She will occasionally open her eyes but she doesn't leave them open. They are dark brown rusty color. Her lethargy is still pretty present but she is back to squirming when I pick her up which I figure is a good sign. Any ideas? anyone dealt with this before? I did notice last night that she seems to be fading in color. It shouldn't be time for her to shed again..

We have a 10 gallon take. We use carpet and heat lamp and the head pad that sits underneath the cage. We mist the cage occasionally.

I got some antibiotics. Hoping that will help her. Wish I knew what it was..

my leopard gecko is having the same problem, hes shedded but some skin is stuck to his face/eyes. Hes been drinking from a dropper just like yours and hes getting skinny, but he usually doesnt eat during a shed. Ive been using a warm watter cotton swab to drop water on the shed, hopfully it helps..

by the way your lizard's condition looks better then mine : / His are really matted shut

ugh sorry you are dealing with this too. It stinks.
I have been using colloidal silver on her eyes and by the dropper which seems to have helped some. also used some neosporin on her eye. Started Abx today. Hopefully it will help soon. She looks so miserable. makes me sad.

She seems to be doing somewhat better. I picked up some turtle eye stuff for Vit A def. today. I can see a change in her just after one dose. She is also shedding again. Her spirits were pretty good this evening..

Do you have a humid hide? If not....do that now! It sounds identical to my problem and it turned out to be dry skin from dehydration. My gecko drinks from the walls of the tupperware hide and the paper towel in it (wont drink from the dishes at all). I have to make sure that paper towel in the hide is soaked at all times....I noticed a difference the NEXT DAY. This could cause the eye problems because their eyes would get dry. You wet them, they're ok, but then they dry off again and shut. If you have a hide and are using moss and it seems to dry out or not be wet enough, switch to a few layers of paper towel. If you don't have a hide....use a small tupperware container, cut a hole on the side for him to go in and out and I recommend using a few layers of paper towel (though you can use moss) and check it 1-2 times a day for moistness and change the paper towel every few days (it gets gross and can form bacteria). I wet the paper towel down very well. A way you can tell if the moist hide is moist enough is to see the condensation along the edges....if you don't see that, use a little more water on the paper towel. I have read that you should not spray the cage. They aren't supposed to live in complete humidity as it could cause respiratory infections....They need a moist place to shed, but not constant......With my gecko, the skin got worse before it got better, but it didn't take long for her to go back to normal. But it def seems like it may be dehydration (was for mine).

yes she does have a cave...with moss. We have been spraying the whole cage too... So we can quit that and just spray the cave. I can put some papertowel under the moss..maybe that would help.

back from the vet. He thinks that she has cysts on her eyes and prescribed an eye drop and a internal antibiotic.

He said that we should feed her fishing worms?? anyone ever heard that? Also said we should get a UVAMB light and use it 12hrs on and 12 hrs off... Anyone ever heard of that???? I keep reading to not use an over heard light.. We have a red light overheard because the unthetank heater doesn't keep the tank warm enough accept in the summer...

sigh...I am going to go mad. I thought for a while she was getting better. Since we have been back from the vet and using the abx and ointment.. She just lays there on her heat pad under the light. That side of the cave is about 88 degrees. She hasn't been in her hide. I am not sure if she drinks. I have been dropping her water when I giver her abx. I did notice one worm was gone this morning....I didn't find it in her cage so I think she ate it but I didn't take everything out either. Normally she eats 4-5 works at a time. She ate one worm on Sat. and possible the one worm last night. Not her normal fair.
Also her water was pink this morning.... would that mean blood??? I haven't seen any anywhere.....
I just want my baby to get better. It makes me so sad to see her ill. Today will be day three of the vets abx and ointment. I thought I would see a change by now. :(

Yes this is EXACTLY what mine is going through right now! I have been searching for help and just can't seem to find any, so it's nice to see some responses that help! Is this normal for gecko's? Is there anything else I can do to help him?
Here is a link to my post as well: http://geckoforums.net/showthread.php?t=41641
