Favorite Store

What is your all-time favorite pet store for all your animals. Mine is PetSmart because they have good prices (price match) and they take good care of their reptiles,birds,small pets, and my favorite, fish. I dont really buy anything from Pet Co because of how they treat their animals but sometimes I will buy some crickets or worms.Also my Petco has a very, very mentally retard guy who works at the counter and takes a looooong time to check you out. Not that I have anthing against them but maybe he should have another low tension "<<for lack of a better word" job.

Various hobby vendors. The only thing I buy at Petsmart is the actual 20L tank and metal lid (they have better prices in our area than PetCo). There are so many awesome vendors in this hobby that sell practically anything and everything needed - there's no reason (IMO) to give my hard-earned money to a gigantic corporation. I'd rather see my dough go back into the hobby and support an individual/family. I really dig that I have that choice, too.

Not that many of you live around the KC area, but I will gladly give a "shout out" to a little local store called Miles of Exotics. Not only is it right down the street from my house, but I have never seen a "pet store" keep their animals in such excellent condition. Mark keeps a small staff of very knowledgeable folks. They also keep prices of their supplies pretty comparable to the big chains, which must be tough sometimes.

EDIT: The owner is a snake breeder, so I think that makes him care more about the "image" his store passes on to the public. The person going in for cat litter one day, might drop some serious cash on some herps the next - you never know.

Leopardbreeder, the Petco by me is MUCH better than the Petsmart, so it is more luck of the draw and varies store to store. Many argue that neither are even close to acceptable. Although I bought mine from Petco and could not be happier, I don't think I would ever purchase a herp from a pet store again. However, I don't think any chain pet store is as bad as this family-owned pet store by me. I do not have a favorite store because I have problems with every one I have seen. But I get my feeders and some supplies from Petco, so I guess if I need an answer, that is it.

Ive bought from both petsmart and petco, and both places (at least the ones ive been to) seemed fine. However there are alot of hole-in-the-wall pet shops out there. I like buying from breeders better, because you know exactally what you are getting and have a much better selection. For someone intrested in the genetics side of the hobby VS just buying animals its much cheaper and better to buy from breeders. How many years would I have to wait before I could buy a raptor, or a super snow from a pet store? and what would the prices be like? :main_rolleyes:

I dont really have a favorite, I have bought herps and supplies from both petco and petsmart and have been happy with what I got. One of the other pet stores around here, is called Bensons, they are a small chain(like 4 stores), they are a very good place to get supplies and herps, they dont sell a ton but take good care of their animals, their prices are a little high.

i rarely go into a petco or or petsmart of any pet store. i generally buy from people within the reptile comunity. everything i need it very easy to find. certain things i might have to go to walmart. between walmart, the dollar store and the online comunity i can get everything i need.

Haha, I completely agree! That's how the Pet Supplies Plus by my parents house is. Plus they have the good healthy food for my bird that other stores don't have.

I buy from whom ever has the best prices on what I am looking for, I mean think about the chain pet stores aren't much diffrent from wal-marts, dollar tree etc.

Walmart comes in and takes over and puts the little people out of buisness, kinda like the huge pet stores with smaller ones. Of course there isn't a pet smart on every corner of my town like wal-mart. lol

But I still gotta have my wal-mart!
