Hey guys,

One of my leopard geckos isn't eating for some reason and I don't know why. He's an adult male, patternless gecko and he weighed about 65 grams last week and is down to 61 grams. I can see his tail getting thinner now and I have no idea what's going on! He hasn't wanted to eat any of his mealworms! He's on a rack system along with all my other geckos, but they are all seperated. The temperature is 88.5F and they each have humid hides in their enclosures as well. All of the others are doing good, but this adult male hasn't been eating for the last two weeks. Can you guys please help me out?! Thanks!!

He may be reacting to presence of females and into breeding or he may be tired of mealworms. There's also a possibility that he's sick. How about trying crickets or another feeder first and then if he continues to do poorly taking him to the vet?

I know many people may get on me about this (everyone seems to have an opinion about temps) but when my temps drop below 89 or thereabouts, my leos stop eating and don't seem as active. Perhaps try upping the temps to maybe 93 or so for a few days and see if that helps? I have a theory that it may be what the gecko is used to. Many people - I'm sure including yourself - have excellent results at lower temps. But both of my geckos were raised with 92-95 degree warm spots and don't seem to react well when it falls below that.

You could also perhaps take a fecal sample in for a float. Losing 4 grams so quickly seems suspicious. He could have a parasitic or bacterial infection. Don't beat yourself up about it, sometimes these things just happen. I know breeders who keep their cages ultra clean and every once in a while they still end up with parasites. I've heard that crickets increase the risk but I'm not 100% on that.

Good luck! I know how it is to be stressed out about a hunger-striking gecko. My Tiamat stopped eating for a month. I only just got her to eat a super the other night.
