Female Hurt During Shipping (wound pics)

I bet it was injured prior to shipping. Probably was overbred, underfed, and underhydrated. The stress of being handled semi-roughly in a container of those dimensions without cushioning to absorb shock was probably what pushed that disadvantaged gecko beyond the point of being able to recover. I'm sorry for your loss.

Hey guys and gals, I have read and agree with everyone's comments (especially the one above) except this should NOT be her loss. This should be the seller's loss. I'm sad that you didn't receive a healthy gecko as most that love the little people would have.
I think saying he/she may know better next time doesn't cut it with me. I think he/she should have to REPLACE or give back the money you paid. I certainly would not want to even consider the seller for a purchase.
...take care. HJ

I am very sorry for what happened! I can't believe my eyes when you show the packing box used! Some people are just so "smart", even a child could tell the geckos will get hurt when shipped like that...

I was thinking the same thing because it looks like it had more problems than just what could have happened during shipment.

How are the other two doing, can you post pics of them?

The other female is in shed and was laying on the warm side of the tank last night. I thought that was kind of weird because most of my others like to get in their moist hides when they start to shed. I figured I'd leave her alone and let her get in a moist hide herself. If she still hasn't moved when I get home from work today, I'll manually place her in a moist hide to help her get the skin off. She did lay into some mealworms really hard the other night, so I'm hoping her lethargy right now is just the 'shedding blues.' The male was in shed last night, too, and when I sprayed down his moist hide, he got really angry at me and hissed! I've never had one do that to me before, and it startled me! But, hey, I can't blame him for being pissy after all he's been through.

I'll snap some photos of them tonight. :)

Pics of other female

Good news! The other female got her shed done just fine by herself. I took some pics tonight of her--I've named her Kyra. Hope you like her! ;)

The male is still a bit skiddish, but I'll be sure to snag some pics of him when he's not so afraid of me. :)

So sorry for you loss, Angie. :( I can't believe those poor leos had to travel so poorly packaged......and that your new little girl had to come to such a terrible end. *sigh*

I hope the seller has contacted you and offered you some type of compensation, whether it be another gecko (properly packaged) or a refund.

The newly-shed girl looks good. I like her name. Please keep us updated with pics as they settle in!

Thanks, Mari.

The seller has not answered me since I informed him that she died.

I'll definitely keep you guys updated on Kyra and Riddick (that's what I named the male). I think I'll start a new thread about them--you know, to get away from the sad vibes of this thread...

P.S. Thank you, too, Bill. I sent you a PM.

Angie-I am so very sorry for your loss and for you having to to through something so tragic that was so avoidable

Anyone that has half of a brain and that claims to breed/raise reptiles-could not possibly do what he did to those geckos and still sleep at night

This person needs to be reported to the BOI before he does it to someone else and kills more animals

I thought that I had seen/read just about every stupid and cruel thing that was possible to happen in regard to shipping-sadly I was wrong

I wish you the best of luck with your two geckos and I will most definitely avoid this individual if I see any of his ads

Take Care

I'm so sorry you had such a horrible experience. I think we'd all like to know who is the scumbag that sent those geckos to you like that. Please post it on the Fauna Classifieds Board Of Inquiry.

That is not how live reptiles are shipped. Unbelievable! I think "STUPID MORON" is an understatement.

Just out of Curiousity, did you use the original Neosporin, or did you use the Neosporin with Pain Reliever?

I know with frogs if you use the one with Pain Reliever, that will actually kill them. You can only use Neosporin without the pain reliever.

Like I said however, this is definitely true for frogs, not sure for Gecko's, but would be good to know as a precaution for anyone else treating for cuts on their Gecko if it's true for them also.

Gosh! You made me panic there--thanks for the tip, though. I checked the tube and it's just plain triple antibiotic--no pain reliever.

Hi Angie
How are the Geckos doing and are they eating yet?

My fingers are crossed for them

I would not even consider a replacement animal from a seller like this.
I would demand a refund for the deceased animal. This person has no business whatsoever shipping a live animal in that manner.

There are way to many resources available on-line that show proper shipping techniques. There is absolutely no excuse for this. Get your many back and stay far away from this seller.
