First reptile

Hey everyone. Just bought my first reptile and decided on a Leopard Gecko since they're very good looking animals and I heard they were real easy to care for. I was always interested in reptiles as a kid but my mother would never let me have one, now I'm working at a pet store and its sort of rekindled that fascination from when I was younger.

I chose a nice healthy looking gecko from where I work and as far as I can tell its a female. I've had her about a week now and she's more active and alert than she ever was in the crowded tank back at work. I've been feeding her mostly mealworms, but I occasionally get her 4-5 small crickets. I do think I may have been overfeeding her. I put out a dish with 10 mealworms and she ate them all up pretty quickly, and the next day when I got home from work there was a poop in the corner that looked half the size of her head with undigested bits of mealworm carapace in it. I've got her down to 4-5 mealworms a night now and would like to know if that is enough.

I had no idea how popular leopard geckos were, and about all the different color morphs. I'm a biology student so I find it all incredibly fascinating. I'm looking forward to learning as much about these little lizards as I can, and maybe even getting some different reptiles when I get more money/space.

Welcome to GF. I started with "one" 8 years ago and I don't even want to tell you how many I have now. Generally babies and juveniles should be fed as much as they can eat and if they overdo it they may throw up but will then learn to regulate. We'd love to see a picture.

She's still got a little scrap of skin barely hanging onto her head from her last shed. She doesn't trust me enough to get close to her head yet, but I don't think its a big deal.

This is the view I have directly to my left sometimes. She'll sit there and stare at me, sometimes rubbing her little feet against the glass like she's trying to get through it.

if you seen undigested pieces of mealworms make sure your temperatures are correct 90-95 atleast constant on the warm side :), cute looking geck.

i had undigested mealies to at first...switched to silkies and never looked back...the nutritional value exceeds the meal worms as well. I have never been a fan of the meal worms.
