Why did you choose to get/purchase/adopt a leopard gecko?
I had been pretty bummed about loosing my job this past Oct. and my hubby knew it. Around Feb. he made an offhand remark about possibly doing something different for Valentine's day and getting me a pet tree frog. I loved the idea. We were at a few different places looking and at the last place we decided to wanted around and see what all they had. I came across the reptile section and pered in to see about a dozen or so baby leopard geckos snoozing in their tank and instantly I was torn between a tree frog or a gecko. The being able to handle them plus the adorable factor made my final decision...which took quite a while. Leonidas came home with us that same afternoon.

1. Who was it?
Leonidas

2. Male or Female?
Not sure yet, but seems to be looking more and more female. More pics will be posted within the coming months.

3. Did you know the morph?
At the time, no. I knew nothing about leos actually. But once we got the little one home, I set straight to learning everything I could about them.

4. Do you still have her or him?
Yup.

5. How old: would they be/or are they?
Under a year. Maybe 6 months?

6. Name one quality, if this is the one that started it all, that made you choose to get another!
Originally I wanted to get two but didn't really think I could afford it at the time. So I was home reading up on them and my hubby called, and I was excitedly telling him about all the different morphs and how cool the orange ones looked... completly oblivious that he had just left a major chain store with Loki in hand. He came home and started telling me about blu ray dvds he had bought, I wasn't quite paying attention since I was still reading about them (on these forums I believe) when he pulled the little white box out from behind him. I opened up one end of the box and a bright lavander and orange head popped out and it was love at first sight. My addiction came to include Odin, Dante, Obi. Then last weekend we were looking at fat tails since I mentioned they were pretty neat looking... Brad took one look at the one and fell for him. So Luigi was added to the growing collection a week ago today.

1. Big Normal AKA norm
2. male
3. yes
4. no a friend and his other half barrowed him to breed a pair of females and they split up. I went to her house and she would never be answer the door or return my calls. Now I dont even know ware he is.
5. I bought him from a chain store 8 years ago as a adult so dont really know but havnt seen him with in the last 3 years.
6. I had many others after him before he dissagered. The real reason was a xgirlfriends pair and the eggs the female laid. I had 2 afts when i was 12 and they were awesome, I had them till my sis got a cat. The different morphs is what got me interested tho there was only a few at the time.

I had a cat and my son wanted his own pet. I wanted something more exciting than a fish but not another cat, and not a rodent. The little pet shop I went to for my cat's special diet also was a small breeder of snakes and various lizards. I actually went in intending to buy something along the lines of a rosy boa...but then I saw the geckos!!! I picked up the Leopard Gecko Manual (which has gotten twice as fat since then) and read through it, asked the guys all sorts of questions (I have a tendency to pick brains), bought everything I needed and picked out the most lavenderish high yellow they had. They told me it was male, and gave me the run down about not keeping boys and girls together or else...

1. Who was it? We named him Drake, he looked like a little dragon to us
2. Male or Female? male
3. Did you know the morph? a high yellow
4. Do you still have her or him? yes
5. How old: would they be/or are they? 8 years old about June
6. Name one quality, if this is the one that started it all, that made you choose to get another! The ridiculously adorable sounds they make...

I see someone is a fellow Cowboy Bebop fan. <3

Yeah love the show :D In fact most of my geckos are named after either a show or a book I was reading/watching at the time. I'm trying to think along the same lines with my Tang, but he's been hard to name.

I always have been interestred in animals, exspecially reptiles.
After a year of reading books and talking to breeders I got my first Leopardgecko with 8 years for christmas.
A big nice normal male from the pet store. And this is just 6 years ago.
I was really fascinated, so I got 2 nice High Yellow females later for him.
I got my first babies this year and at this point I finally fell in love with leopardgeckos.
And I got more and more interestred in colour morphs, so I saved all the money from my Normal/High Yellow hatchlings and bought a cute pair of Tangerine Albinos.
So I saved the money every year to buy high colour Leopardgeckos and it´s growing every year.

Why did you choose to get/purchase/adopt a leopard gecko? For my birthday last month my fatehr and his wife decided to ge tme one froma large chain pet store. She owns 11 leos and I fell in love when she showed them to me. Was her idea to get me one. Fell in love with him and want many more. a week later hubby got me another, from another pet store but she ended up very sick ( I believe from crypto) and passed away. Another week goes by and we return to the large chain store where my first came from and found Stubs housed with many others but he/she was very active eating and drinking with bright eyes. Now have two that are doin awesome and 2 more coming at the end of the week.

And a couple quick questions bout your first!

1. Who was it? Willow
2. Male or Female? Not sure, i believe is a male, but still young
3. Did you know the morph? I think High Yellow but still young
4. Do you still have her or him? yes!
5. How old: would they be/or are they? possibly 4 months old now
6. Name one quality, if this is the one that started it all, that made you choose to get another! I just love their size, dispositions and the fact that they are easily cared for. I love how they all have different personalities and the smile omg the smile lol just melts the heart and cause instant addiction.

My first reptile was my Ball Python, Medusa, and I wasn't content with just one reptile (who is?) and I stumbled upon Leopard Geckos. I though they were the coolest little things and had to get one (or two in my case) to add to my collection.

1. It was Bandit and Daisy.
2. Male and Female respectively.
3. They're both Hypo het RAPTOR.
4. Yes I do, they're getting big!
5. I'd say they're about 7-8 months old.
6. They have the funniest little personalities, I love 'em!

Let's see...

The first time I ever saw a leopard gecko was at pet** about two years ago. I loved how they looked, with their fat tails. I thought they where the most adorable things. Now I have three of them little buggers, and I never regret getting them; their my kids. :)

1. My first leo was Bling.
2. Bling is a >> male.
3. Had no clue at all what morp he was. He was the first leo I saw, and I though he was the most cute out of them all.
4. Yes, of course I do. !
5. When I got Bling, he was around 2 weeks old. He is now a year and I'd say, four or five months.
6. I don't really know. I just really like Bling. I though that I needed a few more. So I went to pet** and bought my other two; Skyler and Ebony. !

Thanks for posting this thread. :main_thumbsup:

I'm still on my first, but I definitely plan on getting another very soon!
I first saw a leo in a science class about 3 years ago when I would stay in the class after school while my friend worked on a project. Her teacher had a female and male together and I instantly fell in love with the female. Later on in the year she told me she a couple eggs and if they came through all right then I could take one for free. Sadly neither eggs made it :[
It wasn't till 3 months ago my mum was looking for toys for our puppy at a new pet store that just opened up close by, and she called me at 11pm and said that they had several gorgeous geckos for only $25.
I picked out the one that seemed most interesting, and talked to Dandan the gecko man, the stores manager (he bred the geckos himself) and he helped me with my tanks setup :]
I've definitely got the gecko fever now. I love my little girl <3

1. Andi (Androcles)

2. I'm pretty sure she's female...

3. From what I've been searching on morphs, she matches SHTCT.

4. I've had her for about 3 months :]

5. About 5 months old I would assume.

6. Soo easy to take care of, I'm absolutely fascinated by her! I can't wait to get her a friend :D

1. Who was it?
Dusty, a few years back
2. Male or Female?
Male- didn't know it at the time though, I got him at a pet store
3. Did you know the morph?
At the time? No
4. Do you still have her or him?
You bet, couldn't trade him in for even the most peculiar Leo out there:main_laugh:
5. How old: would they be/or are they?
Two years
6. Name one quality, if this is the one that started it all, that made you choose to get another!
Hm...I just LOVED the fact that he was so tolerable of handling, I couldn't believe it. The other reptile I had at the time was a Dwarf Sungazer(still have her), and she is insane, literally freaks out if she realizes you're even staring at her...:main_rolleyes:

6. Mom wouldn't let me get anything else- haha. Thank God for that :D

Why did you choose to get/purchase/adopt a leopard gecko?

I was looking for a pet that was easy to take care of that did not make a lot of noise. That would be more interesting than a fish. :main_laugh:..Well that is when I discovered the Lepord Gecko's at a pet store and thought cool I want one. I bought 2 Gecko's though not at the same time.

1. Who was it?
A Lepoard Gecko
2. Male or Female?
Not sure, still not sure
3. Did you know the morph?
No
4. Do you still have her or him?.
No he died at 9 months old. The other gecko I bought Ninja is still alive and doing well.
5. How old: would they be/or are they?
Ninja is about 10 months old.
6. Name one quality, if this is the one that started it all, that made you choose to get another!
When I had the orange Gecko I though I needed to get a companion for him or her, so I went and bought Ninja. Come to find out Ninja and the other Gecko I had fought so I had to get 2 tanks. I am glad though I did buy Ninja because after the Orange gecko died I had another Gecko to love.

PS: I am going to buy another Gecko after I move and it will be from a breeder, not from a pet store.

i have been keeping exotic for about 8 years now. only thing i have not had at one time or another is a snake, my dad is scrad of them so i cant get one.. i got my first leo about 3 months ago. i had 32 tarantulas at the time and wanted to thin them out some. a friend in new york had a leopard gecko that he wanted to be rid of so i traded him a tarantula for her. thats how i got started in leo's and i will soon have my second! lol

1. Who was it?
she has no name.... still thinking of one! lol
2. Male or Female?
female, was told tho that it was a male, but it was not
3. Did you know the morph?
SHTCT
4. Do you still have her or him?
Yes, she was my first!
5. How old: would they be/or are they?
8 to 9 months
6. Name one quality, if this is the one that started it all, that made you choose to get another!

1. Who was it? Les
2. Male or Female? Funny story- Les was originally Lizzy, as the first time I looked I didn't see any hempienes. A few weeks later, when I was cleaning his tank, I figured "may as well make sure", and I saw the telltale signs.
3. Did you know the morph? Was told he was a patternless
4. Do you still have her or him? Definitely
5. How old: would they be/or are they? He's a sub-adult, so not totally sure. He weighs 50 g though, so getting pretty close.
6. Name one quality, if this is the one that started it all, that made you choose to get another! Their eyes. Les has really sharp eyes, while Lizzy has what I call "cow eyes" that seem really gentle. They have more personality than I first thought when I saw them.

Why Did you Choose to purchase a Leopard Gecko Well some neighbors adopted a house gecko and they did some horrible things that I will not mention and dropped two of them on my doorstep..... One was still alive..... I did research and when I typed in HOUSE GECKO most of the caresheets were about Leo's. So I kept bugging my dad, and he said when you can afford them... Big mistake for him! It was Vietnamese New Year the next day I made $200. Then began my long wait for a perfect used tank and a week later I found it.

Who Was It? Tina, Xummer, Duke (Now Dutchess)
Male or Female? First thought to be 1.2 now 0.3
Did you know the morph I did my research and got help from here one was Normal, High Yellow, and Tremper Albino with eye deformities due to temp flux while in egg.
Do You Still Have Them? Yes all three of them going strong
Name One Quality Well Xummer is always smiling and will sit on my hand forever, Tina just stares at me smiling when I come in the room, Dutchess is always venturing off. These three got me started, then I adopted a Female Giant/SHTCT from a young mom, and bought a 5 month old Male HCT with half a regenerated tail for $15 from a young boy that lost interest, and yesterday got a male crested gecko that has a deformity on its tail from hanging which was $30. Now the females live in a 40 breeder. The male in a 20 long and the crested in a 20 long on its side.
