Personally I wouldn't buy any animal from a Fleamarket, simply for the fact that I don't know what's in that market and what diseases and whatnot are floating around.

You don't know what diseases and stuff is floating around an expo either...

I like the idea. I'd help educate protential buyers, draw more people into the hobby, and help advirtise your business.

thanks nick, yea i feel like alot of the people who say no are thinking that my stand might look like the regular flea market stand, but i dont plan on letting mine get out of control and have my animals suffer from it, if i cant keep what i have clean and orderly, then i will down size, but i will be looking after my animals first and forthmost, and i will spend time to educate a potencial buyers on the specifics of keeping leos, cause if they can take home one leo. and see how easy it is, they will come back for another, and may go for a more expensive morph ;)

Yes, but those of us who Vend at expos know that the promoters take extra caution ;) maybe you should vend at a few and find out what I`m talking about... :main_thumbsup:

That may be true but I'd figure its more likely to pass disease to the geckos at a reptile expo with other reptiles, wild caught imports, and vendors who don't take such good care of their collection as people like us do than at a flea market with grandfather clocks and out dated videos games.

If it is an established breeder who sets up a table, I don't think there is anything wrong with it.

I would buy from a flea market but u have to be sure that the people buying are well equipt to care for a leo. ive been to pet stores where they have a care sheet that doubles as a quiz to see if someone can really care for a leo

I wouldn't buy or sell a gecko at a flea market. I would think it would be a situation that would foster impulse purchasing and disposable pet mentality for the majority of the buyers. Just the idea of 'flea market' makes me think of bargain shoppers.

I personally wouldn't buy one from a flea market. Reason being, I worked for an animal shelter a few years back, and there were a lot of issues at our area's flea market for cruelty cases. (Not saying that you would do something like that.) Regarless if you card, it could happen.

This was what happened...
We had gotten a call from a shopper at the flea market that there were a few kids outside in the parking lot, one of children had somehow aquired one of the kittens that someone was selling somewhere in the market. Seems they decided to have a game of catch with the poor thing, and were throwing it around amoungst their circle. Our people came and took the animal, luckily it had had no life threatening injuries and was later adopted out to a good home.

I'm only saying this is a possibilty if children are then left unsupervised afterwards, you can never be too careful.

No I wouldn't. I wasn't at the last missisauga expo in Canada but there was apparently a flea market vendor vending there. All of us on our canadian forum were upset about this, they may be upset were charging 500 $ for a gecko, they all are bargan shoppers usually.

Plus all the hard work the people put into setting up the expos for only reptiles why NOT just go up to an expo?

I think for big expos like NARBC Daytona ect they vet check the animals before comming in, correct me if I'm wrong? And at our expos I think your s'pose to have handwash at your table due to diseases passed around.

I vend at every NARBC Show in Anaheim, CA... and not only do they have a vet look at all the reptiles being sold, but they also have the DFG come around to every booth.

I don't think I would either. No offense...it would just seem "off" to see leos being sold at a flea market

if the leos are healthy and active i see no reason why not. it all depends on the person selling them.
