I use jar covers: peanut butter jars, Flukers and Reptivite jars, the covers from the cardboard cylinders that my crickets come in by mail. I use them for food and water. I bought glass votive candle holders to try in my rack (this is just for overflow; most of my hatchlings are in divided tanks) but I feel that they're too deep for newborns.

I don't use anything for the first week or two...bugs go straight on the ground (because they just crawl out of lids anyway). After they know what food looks like, I use a bowl that about 1" deep. So far, none have had a problem finding the food.

I am using the smallest glazed clay dishes for water and calcium/food. No baby feeders have escaped and my hatchling has no trouble getting in or out. They can sometimes be found 4 for a buck at plant stores off season otherwise 50 cents each. I also use larger ones for my juvenile and adults.

I have plenty of petri's sitting around. Why do you "upgrade" to them? Can then not eat out of them?

I prefer to use the petris, but the hatchlings are a little to small for them until a couple weeks of age...

I probably have 1,000 caps in a bin in my basement. I have been saving them for about a year and I use them for water an d calcium. But, I put some in a cap and they got out.

what I find works really well, is the tops to spice containers. (unless they have the flip tops with the holes in them...too hard to keep clean) they are tall enough so worms don't get out (most of the time anyway) but shallow enough so that they can see that worms are in there. I use baby food jar caps for food and water for hatchlings. the worms crawl out of them eventually but it gets them used to the idea that food is in the dish.

i used to use gatoraid tops, but got tired of hunting down stray mealworms, and the water doesn't stay long- one or two licks and it's gone. I went and bit the bullet. I bought the 2.99 kritterz porcelin bowls. they work much better. and personall i'd rather spend a little if it'll save me a little in time.

Well my adults eat and drink from those dishes, but hatchling/ juvis don't due to size and the amazing amount it would cost to buy 100's of them ;) I have atleast 60 of those bowls and need more :(

Someone mentioned that they don't use anything for the first two weeks, but what I've found works really well is the plastic top from when you buy 50 mealworms at the pet store. The 100 worm tops are not the same, gotta use the 50's. Especially if you're feeding small superworms, which are fast, these lids are useful. They're the perfect height for getting hatchlings feeding well on worms.

I like to sort of handfeed my hatchlings individually. That way I know they're eating well, worms don't get wasted, and it helps them get used to me. What I do is drop one or two worms in the lid/dish to get the gecko interested. Once they've eaten the first one they usually sit at the dish and wait for me to drop more worms in. Sometimes they get spooked by your hand, but they usually turn right around once they see another worm.

Herptivite lids are pretty good too, once the hatchling gets a little bigger. Oh, and the lid from a Vitamin Water is great for a water dish. I especially like the Lemonade ones. I drink a ton of those lemonade and orange vitamin waters. :main_thumbsup:

I love vitamin water, and life water. Thats what most of them are. I like they because they are "smoky". I have having problems with them spilling them now, I think they do it on purpose.

we have found that restaurant to go souflee cups are the best. They are see through and shallow so all of our geckos can see the worms or calcium or whatever is in it. They are soo cheap if you buy them and bulk and with me working in restaurant many times we can get them even cheaper. Many restaurants will sell them to you in sleeves of 100 if you just ask.
