Hey guys, NEED your help badly! I'm struggling to get my girls to eat since I brought them back and it's making me nervous that they won't eat, but in the mean time I'm having a really hard time with finding a bowl to use in the tank. I've gone and bought a ton of different bowls and none of them seem to be working so I need suggestions for bowls. Right now I'm thinking about getting a ramekin or crock that'd be high enough to keep the worms from escaping and then building a ramp for them to have access to the worms. (see the rock wall on my other posts) Obviously that's doable but I'd really prefer to just have 3 bowls side by side, preferably clear containers that the girls will be able to see the worms wiggling and go for it. What do you guys use? What has worked the best? and most importantly WHERE CAN I GET THEM?

NOTE: I posted this also in the food forum, if a moderator wants to delete this or the other one go ahead I just figured this area might get a better response and I had a hard time deciding which area would be best for this question.

How big are your leos? I use 2 different kinds of bowls for my feeders. I use Lee's Mealworm dishes. Excellent little bowl's and escape proof for feeders. The dish comes apart in 2 halves for easy cleaning.
I have these for sale at a very reasonable price.

I also use re-useable/disposible feeder/water dish that is also escape proof. Comes in 2 size's. Very, very, affordable.
I have these for sale as well.

You can PM/E-mail me if you want more info.

I use calcium and other jar lids for the hatchlings. I put some gutload in with the mealworms and that keeps them in. I try to put the bowls just outside the hides so they have to walk through them. I have some hatchlings that just don't get the bowl thing and I've had to train them by attracting them to the bowl with a mealworm in my hand and then dropping it into the bowl at the last minute.

yeah I'd understand that with hatchlings, but these are two adults 71 and 56 grams respectively so obviously I need something bigger, the caclium caps would work for everything but the supers... my supers are about 2" long I think

Scott all the bowls i suggetsed will work great. Do your Leos currretly feed out of Bowls? If so here is how i get mine interested in the bowls and what is in them.

Since Leos are a very visual feeder. I will shake the bowl with the worms or whatever feeder you choose inside of the cage until I see the the leo is fixated on the movement of the bowl. I will do this back in forth in front of them shaking the bowl the whole time.

Once they are interested they will start to advance on the bowl. at this point I keep shaking but pretty much have it on the floor at their level. When they are right up to the bowl I set it down.

The feeders are really active at this point from being shakin up and hopfully will get your Leos attention quick.

I find now All I have to do is shake the bowl in the cage a few times and they come running like the dinner bell rang.

I might be able to get the disposable bowls in clear i will have to contact my distributor.

I didn’t read this thread, but contact GeckoJunkie (Toby) I ordered some bowls from him a while back, and they are PERFECT. However they aren’t clear.

I used Petri dishes at one point as well, they are clear, but crack easily; however they are cheap and disposable, so the cracking might not be a problem for you.

Nic. Are the bowls you ordered Feeder Escape proof? The ones i have listed are. No more feeders on the loose in the cage.

What do you mean "brought them back"? Did you move them?
If so, they will need time to adjust.

For feeding bowls I recommend glass petri dishes. They can be bought online from Edmund Scientific or Fisher Scientific.

Well I got this idea from just simply going to Tremper's site... he has listed that he uses plastic plant saucers (the clear ones that you place under a plant to catch the excess water run off) I was able to find 6" and 4" ... the 4" are pretty much perfect, but I bought both in case the worms started escaping, well i got home and not a single one has escaped from the 4" and it only costs 30 cents... funny, I've probably spent $30 on all the different bowl pairings I've tried, all I had to do was go to a garden center? Strange, anyway I'm already encouraged by their interaction with them. In the 4 hours that I've had them in the cage one of them pooped in the bowl, I came to realize that they're using the far end of the tank as their "defectorium" so I moved the bowls. That just means that the bowls are accessable anyway.

Yes I meant "brought them back" as in I just brought them to my house since I just got them. They're spending a little more time than I'd anticipated adjusting, but hopefully now they'll adjust quickly that I understand the idea of their "workspace" so maybe this'll help. *crosses fingers* Here's hoping that they eat soon! I've only had them for almost 48 hours, I'm sure they'll eat soon, and now that I have a bowl I think will work my mind is a little more at ease.

Scott ... All I used to use in the past was plant saucers for the longest time, cheap and worked well. But I find that Super worms and even adult mealworms can get out of them very easy. Sometimes they don't but most of the time they did. Thats why i use the escape proof style dishes now. One is less than $2 the other is around $.50.

You should have no worrie's about the pair. It can take a while to adjust sometimes. Some Adults don't eat very often as well, they all have differnt feeding habits.
