Thanks everyone...
Answers to some questions...

Yellow ackies get to be 20 to 24 inches maximum... They do not need a large cage... An adult pair can be kept in a cage that is equal to the size of a 55 gallon AGA...

About the perlite... We are in the final stages of experimenting with different substrates that can be used as humidity holders... So far everything we have used has worked well... From last season to now, 100% of the eggs incubated in the SIM have hatched no matter what substrate we used as a himidity holder...

Another clutch is due next week so thats a double HELL YA Eric... LOL

Awesome Gregg!

Zach, I have seen all the prototypes and assure you they are no substrate containers ;)

Oh I thought the SIM worked without substrate.

There needs to be a "humidity retainer"... It can be anything from perlite to a sponge... The point of the container is that the eggs are not sitting in a damp substrate at all and there will be no weighing water to substrate and no guessing if your container is too humid or humid enough... You will see what I am talking about very soon my friend!!!:main_thumbsup:

so rather than open water below the "wire grid" (in your old post) you use something absorbant to hold the water? Maybe increasing the humidity? Sorry, not trying to get off topic.

The SIM requires a substrate to keep humidity levels up. All the eggs incubated in the SIM were subjected to high humidity in the form of condensation on the walls but we realized some reptiles require far less humidty than others. In the case of the ackies, We vented the lid just to allow any excess moisture to evaporate. The eggs remained turgid throughout the incubation and only wrinkled slightly at the time of pipping. The eggs of different species may require a bit less water and you will need to find out what others have hatched theirs on in order to get an idea what the ratio was.

We also have V. T. tristis incubating in the same method, and they are due to hatch in 6 weeks. They are set up same as the ackie eggs were. There is also a clutch of ackie eggs on a special substrate mixture that we will let you know if or when they hatch.

The great thing about the product is your input is needed- on the website you will be asked what you are incubating, what your substrate is and what water ratio, dates, gestation period, and photos. This input will then be added into a spread sheet on the squamataconcepts.com site so others can use the information for their species and eggs. The site will also have a forum for users of the SIM to talk about the product and we will provide assistence.

Thanks,

John

So is the SIM your idea/invention gregg? remember me when you are rollin fat with the money man haha!!

John A and myself are the co-inventors of this product... I went to my best friend and now partner in this awesome project with an idea and we both came up with lots of cool ideas that eventually evolved into what will be the production model of the SIM container...

Dont worry Eric, I dont forget my friends... LOL

well in that case, congrats to you and John. I hope this takes off and you all reap the benefits from it. Its always a refreshing sight when someone uses their heads and creates a ground breaking new product! Good luck fellas! :main_thumbsup:
