Frozen Mice

Ok. So I'm debating on breeding mice to sale as feeders, frozen feeders. I have a male, and I'm considering one female right now, probably another in the future. I want the female anyway for a pet, and since male + female = babies, I figured it wouldn't hurt. Plus my beardies get pinkies every now and then as a treat, so surplus wouldn't hurt to have on hand.

But, what I'm asking is How do you ship frozen mice?

In case I decide to go ahead with this.

Dry ice is necessary. Shipping is quite expensive, so most people will only want to order large quantities. I don't think it would be worthwhile unless you were getting LOTS of mice. Perhaps you have a friend that could buy up your surplus?

Unless your doing it on a large scale I dont think its worth it if you look at Rodent pro the minimum per bag is 100 mice.

I bred mice in the past, a real pain and the smell. I personally dont think its worthwile to sell, their are many great rodent breeders/dealers out their.

Yea. It was a spur of the moment thought, and I decided it wouldn't be worth it, unless I just bred and fed the pinkies to my beardies, but I would have entirelytoo many in the freezer before they could eat them all.

Technically female mice should have at least a month after weaning a litter before they should be bred again anyway (that is my opinion of what's humane...personally I don't believe typical feeder breeding situations humane)...so really with one male and one female (although you should have at least 2 females b/c they very much prefer to have company) you probably would never have too many babies in the freezer...but you also have to consider how you plan on euthanizing them b/c just throwing them in the freezer is very very inhumane.

I'm breeding mice for a snake and I've got to admit that they're a pain in the rear but its cheaper for me to do this than to spend the gas to drive to the store just for a mouse when he needs to be fed. I did do some research before I decided to breed mice and found that if you put vanilla extract in their water it cuts down on the smell and it doesn't hurt them or the animal you feed it to. Right now I have 19 pinkies from two litters but I have leo's beardies a pacman frog and a snake that will eat them so I'm not worried about surplus.
