I bought some this year and used them.....they work well, although you do need quite a bit more moisture than you would normally with perlite. It's nice to put eggs from different females/groups in the same cup and not worry about all of them getting mixed up :)

I noticed that too, about the moisture!! My eggs shriveled up, so I'm back to putting them in my usual Tupperware containers. I'll use my GEOs when I get another incubator, but so far I fare better with my old containers.

I also loved mine. I def did put in a little more moisture than before though. I did it more on accident and when the first clutch was fine I just kept doing it that way.

I use vermiculite i get my water weight by multiplying .8 to the weight of my vermiculite with no holes in my tubs I open them once a week.will this still work. Why does it need more water

I used them with Superhatch and liked them very much. I need more, 5 definitely wasn't enough.

Next year I'm going to try the Superhatch; I agree that perlite seemed to run drier for some reason. I like the GEO, even if the little geckos don't seem to appreciate being smushed into a tiny little space after they hatch. They definitely make it easier to work with a small incubator where too many containers becomes a problem in a hurry.

I used the geo this year and had no issues at all. I used exactly the amount of water and perlite reccomended and all my eggs so far hatched fine. I even added eggs 3 weeks later into a cup a couple times and never had to add anymore water for them to hatch either. I'm wondering why a few here had issues with not enough moisture. Maybe it's that California water is wetter?? Ha!

Or simply circumstantial. I've always used vermiculite, this was the first year that I used perlite. Plus all of my animals were young, first year breeders. I bet next year is much more productive, whether I switch up my incubation techniques or not.

No, but seriously, it's disturbing that eggs were drying up since this could potentially happen to anyone. I'm wondering what ratio was used and what substrate. I used perlite, but sifted out all the powder and fine pieces, leaving just the larger pieces. Then I added just slightly under 2/3 of a cup of water to 5 oz. by volume of the perlite. I'm going off memory, since I'm not at home to check, but I'm almost positive those are the measurements.

Anyways, that's what I did and the containers seemed to hold moisture very well for around 65-70 days.

Hey I'm in SoCal and had no humidity issues :)

Like Chris said, I followed their instructions and never had to add any water during the ncubation period. I did however, had to add water to the bottom water tray in my MR-148 incubator last week. Humidity level dropped by 10-15% in the incubator when the water dried up on the bottom water tray.

I just order my first G.E.O's to give them a try. Has anyone tried to just completely saturate the perlite with water, then just drain excess water?

I used the GEO with great success this year. I used the perlite that came with them and it worked fine. I also tried Sponges cut up in chunks. This is what I use in my SIM Containers (Thanks Squamata Concepts) and it works great for both incubator containers.

I did, I didnt have anything handy to measure the water and was too lazy to go looking for one and it worked just fine. I did add a couple air holes (pin size) not sure if that helped or not as I didnt set one up with out the air holes.

Nope never tried it I just stick with the 1 cup of perlite to 8 oz. of water like it orginally states when you purchase them. As well as adding the 2 tack holes in the middle of the lid of the cup you use. Sorry not much help on your question though.

Actually its 8 oz. perlite by Volume and 5 oz. of water, not 8 oz. water. But I actually stopped measuring the water and just filled it up then poured off the excess until when you push down on the plastic egg holder it looks just right. The water just barely breaks the surface when you push down on it. I'd guess it's just slightly under 5 oz.
