Gecko Building

I am seriously considering having a building put in our backyard and moving my gecko business into it. I think it would make things so much easier for me, and we would have a huge, kick ass living room/game room! And I would actually have a facility!! Just like my hero, Ron Tremper! Haha not quite but this is what I am looking at, they offer a 16 x 36 model of the "workshop". I would finish it out with insulation/drywall/wiring. The building itself with installation and delivery would be around $10,000, all the other shit would probably another 10K, so do you guys think it's worth doing?

That would eat up a lot of the yard, but other then that I think it would be kick ass!! I'd love to have a place outside of the house to work with the geckos. Not only that, but then there won't be hundereds of tiny asses stinking up the house.

I've been on a bitch storm about the smell lately LOL. I'm so tired of them being in the kitchen. I really need a 3rd bedroom for them.

Since I have the space, this would be the #1 reason why I would be in favor of moving mine out of the house. The number #2 reason, of course, would be the inevitable rogue cricket, mealworm & superworm. I don't care what anyone says, it's IMPOSSIBLE to prevent rogue insects forever.

fucking crickets... The last thing I wanna be doing when my back is killing me is bending over to catch some dumbass cricket. If they didn't get ground into the carpet, I'd just step on the little bastards.

Kelli, those buildings look like exactly what I was picturing when you were telling me about them. I think one of those would be awesome for your new gecko hut. heh I reckon they'd be pretty easy to finish out on the inside, too.

ps - I would keep that portable A/C unit as a back-up for the gecko building just in case. Just hide it under your bed or something for the time being. :)

I think it would work great. I have thought about building a similar unit for myself.

You will have to do a little work but it should all be fairly easy. :main_yes:

Make sure to aquire any necessary permits. VERY important.

Make sure that zoning allows the unit. Electrical will have to be run, make sure to use a good electrician and do everything in accordance with the local codes.

Gregg Maddens building will either fall down or be shut down. I guarantee he did not get any permits. lol

I think it is a wonderful idea! You could have everyone set up out there how you want it and reclaim that part of your house! :main_thumbsup:

We may be doing something like this very soon. My husband just can't refrain from commenting on the smell every time he walks by - even if I have JUST finished cleaning. So he is very motivated to move them out of the house. Honestly, it would be very nice. The only down side I see is that I enjoy having the kids playing in the adjacent room while I'm cleaning and I would feel kind of removed from the action, I guess.

Of course, we are still in the negotiating stage. If we are to go through all this, I want significantly more space. He wants to stay small enough to avoid permits (10 x 12 - small but twice what I have now). I think we will need them because of the utilities anyway. Permits are the most gigantic pain in the ass! We just finished dealing with that when we built the garage. Maybe I should just take that over. :main_evilgrin:

That building is awesome! I'm pretty sure it's bigger than our back yard, lol. Like Jeremy said, find and electrician before you have it built. After we had our 12x16 shed built out back we couldn't find an electrician to run electricity to it. I think it's supposed to be run from the pole and permits have to be pulled and such.
