Gecko nipping another

Hi guys and girls

I was feeding my leos last night but instead of chucking in a 'cricket cluster bomb' as I like to call it, I was putting in a few at a time to make sure they all got some (one of my leos is slightly bigger than the others so I wanted to make sure the little ones got their share!).

One of the leos grabbed a cricket and was in the process of eating it, when one of the smaller geckos dashed out and nipped her on the side of the head. My other half thinks that she saw a cricket leg poking out of her companion's mouth and tried to snatch it.

It didn't seem to hurt the other gecko, but she did look like she'd just been told off. Is it simply that the smaller gecko saw food or do you think it was a sign of aggression?

Sounds Like she was going for the food. I have seen them Bite their own tail going for crickets before. Some don't seem to see as well as others and aren't as accurate as other when striking at food. I try to house all my leos separately to avoid these situations of accidental bits or tail nips because another leos see's tail movement or cricket runs under/across one leo while another is stalking it.

This happens with my geckos as well. Mealworms are bad about hanging half way out of the geckos mouth and if you are feeding more than one gecko then the other gecko sometimes goes for the mealworm in the mouth of the other gecko. I wouldnt say it was aggression they are just hungry and going after the food. It is sometimes pretty funny when they play tug a war.

That happened with Skyler and Ebony last night. Skyler saw a meal worm and Ebony got it before he could and bam, the next thing you know, Skyler has a hold of Ebony's leg! No one got hurth though. Phew!

Well there have been no incidents since, and all the geckos are getting on fine. In fact, when I lifted their moist hide to make sure it was still moist, all my leos were huddled up together! So cute! Apologies for the bad quality of the pic, it was a quick snap!

I was wondering though - does anyone know if albino geckos have slightly poorer eyesight? I know they say that other albino animals sometimes do. My other 3 geckos are perfect hunters but my albino seems to miss a lot.

Well I know albinos eyes are very sensitive to light. They see better in darkness. It maybe better to feed your albinos at night before you go to bed so when they get ready to go "hunting" for the food it will be dark.

Sis, my little Vashj sometimes misses and she's a sunglow so I reckon her eyes are sensitive to light too. I'm going to try and get a good pic of her eyes today as they're gorgeous.
