Hello for a while now iv been wanting a leopard gecko and im doing alot of reasearch and stuff before hand but i have two cats one has been brought up with dogs and fish(who all unfortuenly died =( ) she can be quite doesile but always goes in my room where i plan to keep my gecko my other cat dosent really care you could put a elephant in the room and he wouldent notest xD im just wondering about my other cat she can be quite noisey but she would not try and catch it.
Where i plan to keep my gecko is on a cubard at the end of my bed but my kate loves to sleep on the bed would this freak the gecko out or would i have to think of a nother place for it where it couldent see the cat as much?
Thanks for your help Edith

As long as you have a very secure lid and plenty of hiding places for the gecko (don't forget your hot, cool, and humid hides), then I wouldn't think it would be a problem. The gecko should eventually get used to Kate sleeping on the bed.
My cat likes to sleep in front of the cages, actually, and the geckos go right up to the front of their cage to check out the cat.

I had a similar experence as katie_, but i was thankfully there & got it just before my cat got it, after that the gecko moved to our offfice, where the cats will not be going

I have cats in the house, but normally I shut the door to my room to keep them away from my leo. Even when they do come in they seem not to notice him really, so it's much less of a problem than I thought it would be.

I have two cats that really want to "play" with my leo. As long as you keep the terrarium like 5 feet above ground, and away from any lower surfaces that the cats could use as steps, you'll be fine. Also, if your cat gets near the terrarium, spray her with water. She'll learn not to be there.

I have three cats, so I make absolutely sure that the lids of all of my tanks can handle the weight of two cats. They are pretty darn good about not getting up there, but I once had a beardie killed after one of my cats fell through his screen, so I take no chances.

My cat Boogie has a staring contest with my daughter's leopard gecko Naveen, it gets kinda creepy after a while; 45 minutes of this, Boogie leaves the room bored.
My Leopard gecko Amira goes and hides when Boogie is around, she's not having non of that. It took a month for poor Boogie to accept that he is not the highlander anymore.

No problems with any of my rack systems but reptile/fish tanks should always beware the curious cat.

That cat is obese! He could fall right through.

My cat is a healthy 8 pounds, and even he fell through.

Really katie REALLY? I still question to this day how your cat fell through. My tanks are wire top, a nice thick metal wire mesh, with no give way thats welded to the lid frame. When the 20gal was out of use i had put about 5 textbooks on top of it at one point, no breakage at all, and i assure, they were very heavy text books. Granted they were there for a few hours while i cleaned my room. But, while yes, that cat seems to be packing a little belly, i still dont get how the lids would break with such ease. Maybe yours was faulty? or a low grade material?

My cat was never real interested in tanks, just didnt care for them.

Some of the "wire mesh" aren't even really metal. I've seen the plastic screen tops. So I could see it happening with one of those.

Critter Kit but Zilla.
The screen top is attached between pieces of plastic all around the top. He stood on it, probably near the corner, and it detached. It didnt "break", it came apart from the top. Also books are a more equal weight, where as a cat has little pointy paws.
I took pictures and sent it to the company, I'd post them but I'm at work.
It happened, and it was traumatizing.

I didnt know they made plastic tops, kinda goes against commonsense. I mean, what would happen if you had say, a large gecko species or large lizard that climbed upside down on the lid 0.o. That would be bad.... SO, i guess we can now add that if you have cats or animals that climb around the house, get a solid metal mesh lid, and test it. Yes yes, the kitty is a chubby one :p, but lets not steps on toes(i know theres a pun in there somewhere).

Also, i didnt want to sound like i was criticizing or being mean or anything, i was genuinely stunned that your cat broke the lid. Ive been warned of zilla products before because im using a zilla UTH, but im not sure if it applied to all products.(much like TopFin of the fish world)
