Getting a House

My boyfriend and I found a cute little house that is marked as 3 bedroom and 2 bath... Well, it's 2 bedroom, 2 bath, and a teeny walk-in something or another.

His stepdad is a contractor and does really well for himself. He was potentially going to see if the bank would just give him the money for the house, and have us pay him back... Would be better because there wouldn't be any interest. Still iffy to me, but we'll see...

To me, it'd be like we were renting to him... Not really what I'd like... Unless he flat out gave us the cash, and everything was completely in our names. We just payed back what he gave us.

I asked my boyfriend to see if his step-dad could knock out the wall with the mini bedroom and make it an actual room. We want 3 bedrooms- master bedroom, reptile room, and guest room. He wanted a man room, but this house has a shop in the back that he thought about getting his dad to run electricity to, which solves the man room issue.

We both like the house, but it's overall pretty small, even enlarging that one room isn't going to make that big of a difference on square feet, but the price is a definite steal for the location.

There's a decent yard, for tortoise enclosures and a big dog to play around when not in the house. Although, there are a few fence issues that need to be fixed, like gaps in corners, but eventually I'd like to replace the chain link with a privacy fence.

No house is really ever big enough so if you like the house and location, I'd say go for it. You can have another storage building build and finish it out for a gecko room to add a lot more square footage. If it's not a bank owned foreclosure or priced low to get multiple bids you can address the fence issues in your offer.
