im guessing you feed the small ones and keep the adults for breeding? Those large ones look pretty durn big... could a leo take one down?

They aren't that bad...

:main_laugh: ...Great comeback, Nigel!

I used to have a colony of Discoids, and they really were a sinch to keep. Just feed and water them, and keep the temps up, and they reproduce like nobody's business. My wife's a tad "creeped out", but I'm seriously thinking about starting up a colony again. Yours looks good, Nigel! :main_thumbsup:

are the roaches really that easy to breed. i have been breeding mealies for my guys but have always been interested in roaches because i heard that they are cleanier and easier than crickets. plus i would be able to feed the roaches to my leos and cresties. so let me know what you guys think.

They are easier than easy. Put them in a tub, some egg crates, food and water crystals, heat and they do the rest. You don't have to clean it either...the more frass the better the babies thrive.

Hey Nigel,

I'm not trying to knock you on your roach care, but just wanted to give some tips!

I would recommend giving your roaches a better source of consistent water. Are you using fruits/veggies or water crystals? The only reason I'm saying this, is judging from the photos, many of the nymph and adult roaches appear "flat". By that term, I'm referring to their body structure and abdomen. Usually, if well hydrated their thorax regions are plump and stretched. I attached a photo of my nymphs to show you what I mean.

One of the main causes of early death for dubia roaches is dehydration. Also, the better hydrated/plump the female roaches, the more offspring they will produce! Also, when feeding the roaches to your geckos, you want them to be "gut loaded" aka plump with nutrients/water!

Again, I'm only trying to assist you in producing many roaches for many future generations!! Keep up the good work!

Jon
