My dog doesn't seem to like puppies they freak her out but the thing is that her freaking out turns into aggression where she sits there growling then lunges and I don't know what to do.

We've known this puppy since she was born and my dog was exposed to her really young but now the puppy is around 2 1/2 months and Luna can't stand her. When we were first introduced them Luna loved her and would check on her every five minutes, sniffing and licking her non stop but now that she's grown into her puppiness I don't know how to handle the situation.

Any advice?

Can you blame her for being smart? Puppies can be pretty annoying at 2.5 months old! LOL

Sometimes dogs are just setting boundaries. Do you feel like the aggression could really go too far? Our Chihuahua loves to play with our ferrets but when they bite too hard he'll nip back to let them know, "Hey, you're hurting me!". There's certainly more danger involved with a larger dog since they can do more damage if they bite. If she'll stop at a growl and a nip I wouldn't worry too much, just always supervise. Maybe the puppy will learn when it's crossing the line.

My fear is them getting into a corner and my dog pinning her down because while my dog is just 12lbs this little thing is like 3lbs if that. When my dog growled and lunged at her I removed her from the room so she could relax a little because I could see she was highly aggitated; she was whinning and shaking. Once she calmed down I bought her back into the living room and sat down with her on the couch then the little mighty mutt got on all fours and started barking and growling at Luna (my dog) obviously a barking match started and my dog seemed like she wanted a piece of her so I removed her to calm down with me in the room. She usually scratches like crazy to be let out but this time she laid down on the bed and relaxed after a few minutes I let her go again but they had already left.

When your dog lunges and acts up and you remove the pup or the other dog from the situation, you're telling your dog that it's ok to behave that way because she'll get what she wants- time away from the puppy.

Here are a few tips that may help:

Not sure how much they'll help since the dog has known the pup for a while.

Thank You. I had no idea what to do honestly we don't get puppies here very often. In the beginning the puppy was on the sofa with her owner and my dog was hiding in the kitchen actually eating her own food without a fuss. She went and sniffed the puppy and I was giving her little apple treats saying Good Girl but once that little 4 legged creature got on the floor I dunno what happened and had no idea how to handle it either. I just know the little thing got scared and ran off to her owner and was trying her best to climb up his leg but Luna acted as if she still wanted a piece of her.
