I have seen many people posting up in numerous locations and selling "giants" that are 20g or in the general area of that weight. I have also noticed the pricing that is being reflected at a gecko at 20g for a "giant" to be considerably way to freaking high.

I honestly don't believe that the genetics behind these animals and the stipulations to call these animals giants has been firmly grounded yet. How do you know a giant is a giant at the ripe old age of 4-6 weeks of age or at 20g.

There needs to be a gathering of intel from a select few breeders in the industry to compile data. To set the perameters on this so we don't have many people mislabeling their geckos, to keep 20g "giants" off the market.

Yeah agree with you two. Its just like granites with the fat tails. People calling them granites because there are a few spots on them.

I wait until I could say for sure that mine are giants before I sell them as giants. My giant hatchlings didnt seem to be alot larger weightwise at 4-6 wks old but they did tend to be longer and lankier then my regulars.

I agree i know NONE of my guys are giants but there reaching giants sizes. My male is 93 grams. just under 10 inchs. Hes not even a year. All mine are large, pet stores think there giants! People think there giants who have there own pet store geckos. Honestly i think it comes down to what food you feed and supplements. I hatched out my first egg. Shes big yes and her mom was sold to me gravid, i was told the egg could come out as a giant. I seen the dad(tremper male) and he wasnt any bigger then my SHTCTB(the male mentioned before) I think its a bunch of mumbo jumbo as giants:/ Some animals get bigger some are smaller plan and simple. If ya breed a bigger animal to a bigger animal then ofcourse the babies maybe bigger but to classifie them as a giant? I dont believe in it:/ Now the dwarf gene yes i do believe in that one not the giant tho. But thats my POV.

I agree also. I just saw an ad for some adult giants that were 80g! What the heck? This whole giant thing is confusing to me, and I've got seven hatchlings from this year that are possible giants, but how could I sell them as anything but possibles? The sire was 103g at around a year, but I'm not even sure eve he was a giant. He was sold to me as possible, but some folks just have big geckos, ya know?

As far as buying a giant at 20gm, IMO it comes down to whether you trust the breeder or not. There are plenty available from reputable breeders with solid bloodlines. I almost bought one at Daytona Expo this year from one of the big guys, but decided I'm not ready to take on that project.

Yeah you really can't tell a giant at 20 grams... They can look likes giant and never get big. Then your stuck because generally if you say it's not a giant your told you just didn't feed it enough, and it still carries the gene. Then your selling offspring as giants or poss giants and still not certain the original animal was indeed a giant. This is IMO the biggest problem with the morph.

If you breed a super giant x non giant, then technically all the offspring are giant, cant you then label them all giant though?

when you pair a super snow x normal then you dont label your offspring possible mack snow because you know theyre are.

I agree with the OP, but just putting a few points out there.
