I don't use gloves most of the time, but if I'm dealing with feces or rats (sometimes both at the same time, eww) I will use gloves.

I do have a monitor that is quite large , and is very clingy when he's handled. Lately I've been using a dremel to file his nails....it makes it much more tolerable to handle him.
