Going out of town-Temp HELP!!!!

I'm going to be gone for 3.5 days, and I'm going to have someone come in on the second day. just to do a sweep, and check water levels. However, I was worried about the temps, so I bought a thermostat and probe. I'm hooking up two different tanks to the same thermostat, with the probe in one tank. However, one got to be about 100, while the other was 90, so I hooked the 100 degree one up to a dimmer switch. Its nor really working, one is either too cold or too hot. Does anyone have any advice, or experience with hooking up two tanks to the same thermostat? Will it even work? Please let me know ASAP, as I'm leaving early tomorrow morning, and won't have much time to fiddle with it. :main_angry: :main_no: :(

The thermostat will regulate whichever tank you put the probe into. If the tanks have similar UTH's and are exposed to similar environmental conditions then they will probably measure about the same. I would say your choices are as follows:

--put the probe in the "hotter" tank and turn it up a big past 90 so the "cooler" tank will be close to 90

--put the probe in the cooler tank and use a rheostat to get the hotter tank cooler

--check the temperatures in several places in each tank because you may just be measuring a hot spot in one of the tanks.

Good luck.

Just set your temperatures lower than you normally would. They'll be fine at cooler temps for a few days. We just got back from vacation and set all of our racks to 86F while we were gone since it was going to be in the upper 90's all week. I'm glad we did because the power to our entire neighborhood went out. If they had been set for 92F the racks might have heated up before the A/C could cool the house down.

OK. Thanks for the advice. I hope they'll be OK. If it gets to be to hot, they'll hopefully go the the cool side.
