Hi Casea.
I have a Little Giant.
I can't really say I'm pleased with
results from it.
But then again I have not come to
the conclusion that all problems are from it.
I think it was made to hatch chicken eggs.
That is the reason for the top heat element.
Mine has information saying use in
constant room temps. 65 to 72.
That I think is a big key in its use.
Male hatches(6) in higher temps went fine.
#1 First season used..I had two 1st season females.
results est. 4 hatches from 9 eggs. ?? season??
#2 Friend used the same incubator with a couple
more hatches but had a couple defective
babies.?? season??
#3 Friend continued using his using more
females but continued percentages.?? season??
#3 B I did not use the incubator.
I made a small area in a shower room, near a gas
fired water heater. (temps 78 to 84)
I had 27 eggs, I hatched 27 geckos. WOW season!!!
All in good health, but one hatched was a rare
genetic dwarf.
(she has become the high light for my
gathering of gecko.)
#4 2010 went back to the little giant ??
I guess maybe to prove something...
or because the small area had collected
misc. tools and items I had to deal with.
After 16 eggs with 11 going bad....?? season so far??
I was a bit confused but sold more on the water
heater area. I moved all eggs (5) out of
the bator.
So I am back to trying to hatch there. (back to 7 eggs)
I am waiting (hopefully June 5th or about)
on my first hatch for this season.
I know part of the problems are not
from the incubator........
But IMO they have a humidity problem
outside the specified range.
Suggestions:
Partly fill plastic bags with water.
Lay under lower screen to help hold temp.
DO NOT turn heat control knob once it is set
and temperature is where you want it.
Verify with 2 thermometers.
When satisfied with it, mark the dial for a quick
setting if needed......Also for Male or Female Temp.
ROOM TEMP 65 to 72 very important!
All the best to you.
Take care. HJ

I used the little giant and had to make a 4" spacer to lift heating element away from the eggs. I had very poor results until the spacer was added.

bators, ahhh yes

AhHaaaa....Good idea Thad.
I thought the element might
need placement on the bottom.
May fix and give it another test.
Not my thread but good info needs
passed around.
Thanks.
Take care. HJ

I think the little giants fine as long as you don't care about temp sexing and the room you keep in it is fairly stable temp-wise. I do still have one that I use for temp-sexing males occasionally, and it's worked ok. My herp room stays at 75F 24/7, so that may have a bit to do with it. Just keep an eye on it because once or twice in the past I got a temp swing that was beyond a degree.

This is my first season breeding and the first season with the little giant. I have one thing to say, make sure it is in a room with stable temperatures. If you have an issue with it dropping below the set temp, which I did. I found an easy fix, my son's Fleece Spiderman blanket.

I simply laid the blanket out and then folded it up around it. This reduces the effects of outside drafts' that may come into this horribly sealed incubator.
