I thought that updating my hovabators to a nice incubator would really help with temp flucuations. It must not be because I've had 4 geckos hatch recently with deformities.:( One hatched really tiny with an underbite, another two just hatched with a tail kink by the base of their tails, and the last one has one normal eye and one small eye.:( I am so frustrated. Three are from the same female, so I was thinking it's possible that her vitamins were low at the end of the season. She did give me quite a few eggs and those were her last three. The two with the tail issues hatched with fat tails. It almost looks like they couldn't fit in the eggs well.

I know this happens, but it makes me sad/angry to see so many this year.:( I also have had quite a few eggs go bad and not hatch.

Am I the only one having a crappy season with eggs?

I'm sorry to hear about the bad luck.:( I had one hatch yesterday thats kind of dwarfed, only 1 egg go bad. That was the little one from when my SS dropped 3. Other than those 2 I have been ok this year.

What temp are you incubating at? I am actually having an amazing year compared to last year where I had bad eggs, dead embryos and a number of limb and eye deformities. Since other people have changed nothing in their breeders or setups and had radically different seasons, I hesitate to say that any of the few different things I'm doing this year has made a difference, but one thing that I think has helped is raising my temperatures a few degrees. I was incubating for female at the low end --maybe 79-81 and I've raised it a bit. I think maybe some of the problem was fluctuations at the low end of things.

My temp inside the incubator is usually around 83.2-83.5. I've only seen it go up to 83.9. It doesn't flucuate a ton that I can tell, but I don't check in inside temps as much as I should.

Kristi, you're not the only one having a crappy season. I've had my share this season too:

11 eggs laid, 5 infertile, two hatch out prematurely and die, one hatch out with severe deformities and had to be put down, 2 go bad during incubation, and one is still in the incubator. Just one left...should be hatching soon so fingers crossed for one healthy baby

I have had a few with similar deformities this season. I don't understand why.... they are all from veteran breeders and never had an issue with ANY of their offspring. This has been a very strange season for deformities, egg failures, and infertile eggs.

I hope you get that healthy baby.

This is a weird season. I thought the issues would be better this year without the mealworm problems. I've had some breeders only lay one or two eggs, too.

I noticed last night that the clutchmate to the small eye one also has an eye that is a bit smaller than the other one.:( I barely have any eggs left and I really hope they'll be okay.

This is my first breeding season, and I am happy to have gotten two babies out of the debacle. (I was out of town for a month during the middle of the season and I still have 4 eggs left in the incubator- we'll see).
However, the guy I buy my feeders through has been complaining since January or so that he is having terrible luck with his leos- he said he hasn't had any hatches whatsoever this year. This guy isn't new, either... he actually was somewhat put out that I got my snows to hatch out since his didn't... dunno.

100% agree unfortunately :(

This sucks. I can't believe so many of us are having the same problems. I wish I could figure it out. I breed my own roaches and mealworms, so it shouldn't be an issue with feeders. I do buy silkworms and waxworms, but they don't get them everyday.

I hope things start to improve for all of us.

I was happy to see this one hatch out today with good eyes and a good tail. But then I noticed that it's wrists look weird. It can stand normal, but then it's feet sort of fold and it walks on it's wrists.:main_angry:

It does it with both front feet, too.:( Something's just not right with them. Hopefully it's nothing major and it will be okay in a few days.

Might be because it just hatched.
We're starting late, and so far it's been about 50/50 w/mold or something wrong, and then something right. But, this is better than last year. I'm wondering if it's still a food issue?
