Had a mishap...

I have an incubator that has a 6-Outlet power strip attached to it so that I can plug in multiple incubators. On this strip is a rocker switch. Well, I suspect when I checked the eggs in the morning, I hit the switch by accident turning off the power strip. This means that from that point on, the heat didn't kick on. I noticed when I got home from work, about 9 hours later, that the temp was down to 72 degrees (from about 85). Shortly after, I discovered the switch was the problem and turned it back to the on position. :main_no:

And now my question for anybody that's had an incubator mishap, or has heard from anyone that has. Can I expect any of my ~30 eggs to hatch out, or is it hopeless? The first pair should have been at term sometime just after 3/23, but nothing's hatched. Man, I'm really sick over this! Thanks in advance for the feedback!

I had the exact same thing happen last season. It didn’t seem to make my hatchling rate go down any.

I think that as long as there wasn't any sudden temp. change, you'll be fine. You don't need to worry so much about gradual temp. changes. Good luck!

have had similar before ~ temps dropped from 86*F down to 70*F ~ coldest night as well here at the time and the only thing that stopped it dropping further was the rep room ambient temp ~ out of the eggs that were in the bator only two didn't make it and one hatchling ended up with a dumpy tail... the rest were fine :main_thumbsup:

I hope they all turn out fine. Don't get too discouraged. Even if there's a tail kink it won't make them any less wonderful pets.

I know what you're going through... today i checked the history of my thermometer to find a max temp of 97!?! Naturally, I've been a nervous wreck all day. I'm hoping it's because I laid a bag of warm water near the thermometer probe, but I'm still really scared. I hope everything turns out well for you! Let me know how everything turns out :)

I had two incidents that I thought froze and then cooked my eggs. First the power went out and my thermostat read 71 degrees. The eggs were that cold for at least an hour. The second happened a couple weeks later. I bumped the T-stat sensor and moved it too far away from the heat source (it's taped now). I woke up at 4 in the morning worried about something. I checked the incubator and found the thermostat at 105 degrees! So these same eggs were as low as 71 and as high as 105.

And so far, this little critter was right on time:

He is perfect BTW!

Did you candle the eggs?

Nope, I don't candle. At least I haven't yet. I put everything in the incubator and let it go to term. We'll have to see. Thanks for the feedback!

First two hatchlings of the season died within their first 48 hrs. out of the egg. The first one was RAPTOr or het RAPTOr, and the second one was a Tang Enigma or Hypo Tang Enigma. They were extremely small, so I'm guessing the lack of heat at least stunted their growth, and maybe even organ developement. I've pretty much written off this year. :main_no:
