Had a mishap...

I had two incidents that I thought froze and then cooked my eggs. First the power went out and my thermostat read 71 degrees. The eggs were that cold for at least an hour. The second happened a couple weeks later. I bumped the T-stat sensor and moved it too far away from the heat source (it's taped now). I woke up at 4 in the morning worried about something. I checked the incubator and found the thermostat at 105 degrees! So these same eggs were as low as 71 and as high as 105.

And so far, this little critter was right on time:

He is perfect BTW!

Did you candle the eggs?

Why is that gecko black?

He looks like a type of snow, so that would be why he's black :) They are pretty sweet geckos.

And since this thread is back up top, our first clutch hatched this weekend! So after all the worrying over temp fluxes, they turned out perfect anyway :) And this was the first clutch from a pair of first time breeders!!!

I had a power outage years ago where the incubator was not on for 15 hours all eggs still hatched although they were not leo eggs... As log as it was a gradual fluctuation and it does not happen frequently, I do not see any reason to worry... It is never hopeless... In fact I do not think the one time ordeal will have any effect on your hatch rate...

You can not base your season on your first two hatchlings... They could have just been week animals that would not have made it either way...

I have to agree with Gregg on this. Hope for the best, but prepare for the worst. If those are the only two that don't make it out of 30 then you will only have about a 6% loss for the season. I think any breeder would be happy with those stats.

Kristi, Gregg and Angelicka - Thanks for the words of encouragement. :main_thumbsup: It means a lot to me!

I'm still optimistic that something good will come out of this season. I'm not tossing eggs until they're smelly and covered with mold. I continue to check multiple times a day too. But I won't lie, it's depressing at times. :(

Last year we had a power outage. We only had 9 or 10 eggs in the incubator. They all hatched out and were fine except for one. He had a deformed foot.

Keep positive Maurice. I wouldn’t write the season off. This season hasn’t been the best for me either. Last year I only had 8 eggs but was 100% with them. This year I feel like I had beginners luck last year. I have thrown 4 eggs away already this year, with another 3 that look to be bad. This is out of 16 eggs that have been laid so far. I did get one to hatch so far but it has a really bad tail curl and is really small. I am sure things will get better for you.

I'm actually going through a similar thing, my temps were down to 76 for 8-12 hours due to fluke water heater incident. I have no idea if they'll be ok, and I won't know for at least another 3 weeks...

Thanks Rick, Janece, and Kristi! Number 4 hatched last night too (sibling to number three in the post), and it was also a Hypo Tang Enigma. Still roughly 15 eggs in the bator, so who knows...

Tim, Thanks for the feedback! The season will turn around for you too. I just know it will! :main_yes:

Hey Maurice, I had a similar thing happen a couple of years ago............power went out (in JUNE!!) for like 12 hours. The temps fell to the low 70's. I still had a 100% hatch rate, 0 deformities. Hope it all works out for you as well. :)
