Handling...

Right I've got two Geckos housed together which I would like to sex (pretty sure they're male and female). I haven't really handled them as only had them 3 or 4 months and left them pretty much alone. Anyway I need to take them out to weigh them and take pictures of their underneath but because Winston (who I think is a male) is very protective of Leeroy (who is female), whenever I put my hand in the tank Leeroy will come up to me and Winston will go to bite my hand. Should I just pick him up and just get it over and done with or will this stress him out too much? Is there an easier way of doing this?

Any advice would be appreciated :)

I would pick him up. He may not like it at first, but as you continue to handle them each day, he should start to calm down and realize that you are not a threat.

Best of luck.

Just move slowly and don't grab & pull the geckos tail. Handling the geckos for a few minutes won't bother them much. You can place the geckos into an empty glass container and take the picture from below. This way you don't have to actually hold them while taking the picture. Also if you are afraid of them biting you when you pick them up just wear a glove or sock over your hand.

It could take a few weeks or longer... but keep at it and it will be worth it...

I love to handle ours.....someone told me though that you shouldn't get them out a lot. Is this true and if so why shouldn't you? I mean if they like you and they're calm then what's the big deal??? Just wondering....:main_huh:

Okay I'll have a go, just one of them is quite feisty so I'm a lil' wary of him and he happens to be very protective of the other one :main_yes: As long as he doesn't lose his tail...
