harvesting your mealies

I'm trying to find out the best way to get my mealies out of my beetle tub every time I open the lid the do a nose dive down into the oats. I have atleast 200 mealies in there not counting the real little ones and do good to get 10 out at a time.

Hopefully your oats are powdered in the blender in which case you can sift out the mealies. If not, you will have to get another tub. Scoop out a small handful of oats into the tub, move the oats around and pull out the mealies. A somewhat simpler solution is to put a piece of fresh apple, carrot or other veggie in there, give it a few hours and lift up the fruit or veggie. There should be mealies hanging on and around it. I use pieces of asparagus and the mealies like to tunnel up into it.

About every 3 weeks I sort my beetles out into a new tub( I have drawers though) of bran meal.

I just use feeding tongs to grab them out. You can dig down into the oats with it.
