Hatchling Care Question

I just came home to find a new baby gecko in my incubator. This being my first baby I have ever hatched I have a few questions.

1. Is it ok to take it out of the incubator and put it in a tank or should I leave it there for a few days? It is onky at the most 6 hours old.

2. I have read that they do not eat for the first week because they feed off the egg yolk......should I be putting the egg remains in the new tank with the hatchling????

Any advice would be awesome I am sooooooooo excited.

For those that are familiar with my geckos.....the parents are Dizzy and Diego.

This is how I do it; others may differ:

Put the baby in a small cage or a tub if you're using a rack. You can use a piece of plexiglass to divide a cage into a smaller area if the cage is really huge. Give it a place to hide for now. You don't need to put any of the yolk or anything in with it. Spray around where it is about twice a day. This will keep it hydrated even though it may scream at you when you do it. It will soon learn to lick the droplets of water. Within a few days you will notice some tiny poops. You may also notice it looking like it has to shed, or you'll find some of the shed skin. This should all happen the first week. When you think the hatchling has shed, or when you start seeing poops, you can give it a small humid hide, a dish of water and a small bowl of mealworms or a few small (1/4" is fine; pinhead is too small) crickets. I use jar lids so they can see the mealworms and reach them easily. Don't worry if it takes them another week or more to eat much. Eventually you'll start to see food disappearing and lots of poop coming.

I just put them in a bin, I left a few in the cooker to see which one is better, and they do fine either way.

What they say they feed off the yolk, they mean because the babies absorbs the yolk, so its already inside them.

I actually put a bowl of mealworms in the cage with them from the first day. This allows them to feed when they get hungry, and you don’t have to worry about anything.

And, you know we need pics right. ;)

awww very cute hatchlings. I usually transfer mine to a tub a couple hours after hatching. I use paper towel as substrate. I use meal worm containers as humidty hides. I also have a small dry hide in the end opposite the heat tape. Mine usually seem to shed and poo about 4 or 5 days old. I feed tiny mealies and 1/8 crickets ( i moosh the heads of the crickets). I have had a couple that took a few days longer to eat . Congrats and best wishes.

Congrats!

I put mine in the tub after they hatch. They're kept on paper towels with a hide. So far, most of mine have shed within 2-3 days and start eating right after that. I also have a small water bowl that I don't fill. I spray 1-2 times a day.

Well after looking at the pics again I would make one recommendation, get the adult geckos off the sand, it can cause impaction.

That is a very good recommendation....but....those pictures are 2 months old and they have since been moved to carpet. The hatchling is on carpet as well.
