i would just take regular deli cups, or shoe boxes and put the eggs in that. I use perlite with that, and i never have to re-moisten the stuff.

Wow, that's strange, Shawn. I would think that with the holes covered on your cups that it wouldn't dry out on you. I haven't had any experience with Hatchrite, but I've used both perlite and vermiculite and neither of them tend to dry out without holes. I personally leave one hole in every cup and need to add water every once in a great while with the mediums I use, but with no holes it's strange to have that happen?? :main_huh:

We used HatchRite on our bp clutch last year and only had to add water once during the incubation process. We had a shoe box with eggs and another shoe box with water the whole time, though.

We use it and occasionally I have to add a little water to containers in the male incubator but not usually in the female containers. It can, however, dry out in the bag if there's too much air in it. Maybe that's where your problem is.

are you supposed to add water when you first make your container? Also should I be leaving any holes for gas/air exchange?

I have hatched 3 leos with hatch rite this year. It is my first year breeding. I like it. You don't have to add water when you use this stuff out of the bag. I did have to mist alittle during the incubation. Maybe once 3/4ths of the way through the incubation. I did have one hole in my container. I would probably go without any holes just make sure you open once a week to exchange the air.

Good Stuff

I've used Hatchrite all season and have had a 100% hatch rate so far (knock on wood). It does seem a bit dry at times, but it's usually just the very top layer. If you stick your finger down in it, it's still moist. I haven't added any water at all and everythings going good. (30+eggs):main_thumbsup:
