So, that picky ball python that was being housed at my boyfriend's house is under my roof do to certain circumstances... It's been a long 4-5 months since I've seen him eat, but he at a week and a half - two weeks ago, so I figured ok I'd give it a try. Bought a mouse just to try... Here are the results...

I do want to say that normally the entire heat pad is covered. I'm just in the middle of redoing his tank with slate and that's what it is at the present moment.

We were worried he wasn't eating, and lost so many mice and rats that just died or were killed to try that, but sadly all was a waste of money. He ate a few weeks ago, but it's the first time in MONTHS I've seen it. I'm excited! I'm going to try another small mouse in at least 3 days, and if he eats that, then he'll get upgraded back to small/medium rats. I can't wait! My mom actually watched him till he got the mouse. She said it was nasty. Ha. Then came back to see if he was done. I thought that was funny.

Anyone have suggestions about his tank. I'm trying to fit in all slate bottom, but other than that what all should I add. I want to spoil him more than he has been, sadly his father was slightly neglectful (well only gave bare minimum). Right now, he's got a house, big water dish, and a tree thing. What else could I add, or replace? Would fack plants or stuff be ok? I want to add dimension to the cage; everything's at the bottom.

Im not sure if the slate is a good thing for the balls. With an under tank heater. I think u can get uneven heating and like hot spots. Kind of like a heat rock. I breed balls i Keep all mine on aspen shavings or newspaper. I know newspaper isnt the best for them because of the ink. In the wild they live in holes in the ground. Ive noticed that a few of mine dont like the newspaper. They like the wood shavings so they can kind of make like a nesting area in there hide. I have tried to switch them to newspaper but they start acting all weird not eating really active trying to get out. Even a few nose rubs. Im not saying not to do it or anything like that. If you dont have alot of snakes to take care of on feeding and cleaning day. I would go with a more natural looking setup. Like i said in the wild live in holes in the ground and other places but mostly in the ground. There burrows have like sand, dirt, leaves no tile that i know of. Again up to u im not trying to be a prick or anything. Just make sure if u stay with a more natural setup. Stay away from pine or cedar. All of mine that have shavings i take them out and feed them in another bin with nothing in it if thats what your worried about. Sorry so long

Yah its me again well they dont need alot. They spend most of there time hiding atleast mine do. A dish big enough for them to soak in if it wants to. A good hide something that doesnt let alot of light in. I use like plastic dish tubs with a hole cut on one side big as the biggest part of the snake. That way not as much light gets in. If u want something more natural looking theres tons of hides for sale. Check out ebay or even check with your local pet shop. In the wild they spend most of there time on the ground. So you dont really need anything for climbing. They will climb but there not the best at it and like to fall could get hurt. As for plastic plants make sure some of the vines u can get have little circles on them for hanging them. Make sure the snake cant get its head through any of them or anything like that. On another forum some guy had the snake get stuck. He caught it just in time or snake would of been dead. It got its head in the little circle and about 1/4 of its body and got stuck wasent more than a year old. Just make sure u check them out first and snake cant get caught in any part of the fake plant.
