We still have no idea what it is that has caused this, but we (vet and myself) are guessing a spider bite of some sort. Poor Lightning got it good this time. I got out of bed at about 0930, got Tori up and was feeding her and posting on threads when I look at Lightning and notice this.....

Muzzel all swallen.

So I call up my vet (DVM Frank Krupka seen on Animal Planet :) ) and tell him what I'm dealing with and our cource of action the last time. He tells me to bring him in. I get there and the vet and I start chit chatting about all the stuff that's been going on, when am I moving hows all the critters. He stops and says, "Oh we have to give him flagyl as well don't we?" Yup, he gets the runs real bad on the prednisone so it helps with that. Then we go over Lightnings fear issues and he takes him in the back to muzzle him and give him a shot of prednisone to help get things started.

So now I have to give him prednisone, flagyl and benadryl so this all clears up. I get home and not long after Zach yells, "MOM!!! Lightning's getting wose!" OMG Poor thing!

So I go ahead and work on getting benadryl into Lightning, only to find out that all I have is bubblegum flavored liquid...LOL So I pour two tbs into a bowl. Yeah right he takes one taste and doesn't like it. I'll show him I'm smarter than him. I get out some cheese and I drop a piece into the bowl and he ends up lapping it all up with the cheese. hee hee hee

Well now poor baby Lightning is laying across my lap with his head on my arm as I type this out. Wish him luck that this all subsides soon and I don't have a puffy face dog anymore that looks so pittiful.

So, how is everyone elses weekend starting off? :main_rolleyes:

Poor Lightning!

Tommy (our bulldog) makes his face swell like that every now and then. We finally figured out that he was being annoyed by a flea bite (or anything else) and rubbing/beating his head on things. It was more self inflicted than allergic reaction.

Hopefully Lightning's swelling is a one time allergic reaction to something! Oh, and I thought I was being sneaky giving Tommy a fast melt Benedryl strip one time...huge slobbery mess all over the floor and he managed to spit it out.

Well the muzzle swelling is down a bit, but his eye is still pretty puffy. I'm wondering if he did that part on his own when he was rubbing his face when we got home. Either way I'm sure with the bendadryl in his system he won't itch as much and keep rubbing it or I haven't seen him rubbing it, we took a nap on the couch together.

"...getting wose!" lol is that a direct quote? Cute. I hope Lightning is feeling better soon. My guess would be a spider bite. Is Lightning's eye swelling shut too?

Ooops!! LOL That was a typo. Yeah his eye is swollen but not shut all the way. I think the sensation of the swelling on the muzzle did made him rub his face and then he rubbed further and further out and that's when it started getting his eyes.

The first time this happened I was actually right next to him when it started and watched it start swelling, he didn't do much to make it worse that time. We did find two small lumps right on the top of his head that made us think a spider last time, and this time I found two more on the muzzle after we got home. We found the first one after we got home as well, so the bite site swelled a couple of hour afterwards, which I find odd.

We have normal house spiders in the house, nothing unusual that I've ever found and/or my exterminator has never told me of any type of spider to watch out for that he's seen in my basement.

Oh wow Fe...I hope the poor little guy is feeling better! I had a dog that reacted the very same to a terrible spider bite. Took us MONTHS to get that settled out.
