I've read so much on this and have been told so many different things.. Right now I have the ceramic lamp with a 50 watt tight beam bulb..and the temps on the warm side(on ground)are around 90-92, cool side around 78-80...Is it still better to use the uth? Im using a 10 gallon tank. Several people have told me the lamp alone is fine. But I see all this talk about belly heat for digestion. Im trying so hard to whats best, its hard with so many people telling me so many different things. I have a few books also that I've been reading too. I'd really appreciate some input. Im sorry if this has been asked, I did search for it..

They do need the UTH to help with proper digestion. I've heard of some people using an uth as well as a ceramic bulb on occasion, although unless your temps are off should not be necessary.

the ceramic bulb will not hurt a thing. as long as your temps on the ground compliment the air temps you should be fine. our cool side is about 79-81 our hot spot ranges between 95-97 and thats all in a 15 quart tub.

i think as long as your geckos have plenty of heat under and around them they should be fine. i would imagine there is a gradiant that suits the gecko in there somewhere at any given time.

The heat lamp will raise the temperature of the ground below it anyway, although I agree with gregg they will still get a little belly heat from the ground under the bulb if it concerns you.

if you want to provide more belly heat while using a heat lamp, purchase a piece of slate tile and place it under the lamp. The slate will then absorb the heat from the lamp and provide belly heat for the gecko
