Heat pack shipping question

Is it safe oxygen wise to use 2 heat packs in a 12 x 9 x 6 box? I was under the impression that the chemical reaction that occurs to create heat in the heat pack uses oxygen so would it be ok to use 2 heat packs in a small box like that and still have enough oxygen for the gecko? Or would drilling a few holes in the box allow for enough oxygen for the 2 heat packs?

I am just concerned that shipping when it is under 40 is too cold but I know people do it... how do these people do it safely or are they just using 1 heat pack?

I always put a few small holes in the box. Not sure if two heat packs are needed. Shipyourreptiles recomends not to ship at temps that low.

personally i would use one heat pack and use news papers as packing insulation.. you do not want your geckos to be 90* you just want them to keep from getting too cold. remember the hub in which your gecko is flying into is more important that where you are shiping from and even sometimes the destination.

hmmm ok. Yeah its so hard to guess these things sometimes since your not there and dont really know how warm the plane or truck is. Or the hub they will be landing at.... My guess would be that they arent that warm this time of year at least in cold places... maybe in the 50-60s(optimistic) if the daytime high is in the 60s where I am shipping. The overnight lows are supposed to be around 33 here but 40ish where they are going.

i would use one heat pack and put it as far away from the gecko as possible. use newspaper it holds the heat better than packing peanuts
