Hi all i recently got a 20 long tank i replaced my older 15 gallon that i first got for my leopard gecko.. I thought she needed more room and she did haha... Well all is going great except for the hot side of the tank i'm having a little trouble the uth is getting too hot and she won't go into her hot hide anymore... it was like almost 100 in there... i put som paper towels under the repti carpet thinking it would cut the temp but it doesn't really help any ideas? should i purchase a rheostat.. input is appreciated... thanks

You could get a rheostat, in which case you'll have to be measuring the temps and adjusting the rheostat anytime the temperature in the room changes significantly. You could also spend a bit more than twice the cost of the rheostat and get a relatively inexpensive thermostat. I have a bunch made by either "alife" or "ESU" (I think it's the same thermostat; they look the same) for somewhere around $30. Although some people have complained about them not working, I am using at least 8 right now and have not had any problem. To purchase, check some of the online reptile supply places, compare prices and don't forget to take into account the shipping because that varies. If you do decide to go with a rheostat, don't bother to spend the money on a reptile one. Go to Home Depot or Loews and get a "lamp dimmer" which is about $12.
