Paintedlizards invited me here (or, well, she told me about this place).
My name is Rebecca.

Now, how should I start this...well, we own 4 leopard geckos, one male, 3 females.
I should say that my husband owns them since he has had them since December 2001, long before I entered the picture.

Um, what I may post here, may sound bad, but I honestly don't mean it that way.
I am clueless when it comes to geckos. Actually, I'm clueless when it comes to ANY reptile.

But this is why I'm here. I am here to learn.
Anyway, I'm into photography, and thought it would be cool to snap some shots when my husband fed the geckos last night.
So...I snapped some shots of "the feeding", and when I got the pictures on my computer to post process them...that was when it hit me:

These are not "just the lizards that live downstairs in the cage that husband feeds and does things for".
These are beautiful creatures that are very interesting. They have their own little personalities. They are our pets.

I got a picture of one of the females where she's looking straight at me, and it just made me fall in love.

So, I have lived in this house, with these geckos, for over 2 years now, and just NOW it hits me.

I am going to be taking on more of a care-giver role with them now. The only thing I won't be doing is feeding the crickets to them. I cannot do it. I won't do it. I'll die if one of those things touches me. I KNOW.
I'll feed the mealies, I'll feed the supers and the wax worms, but as for feeding bugs? The husband can do that.

We were feeding lobster roaches at one time, but they were not easy to keep, and I was having nightmares about roaches in my house, so I had my husband get rid of them.

Well, I joined here to learn. I hope that you all will forgive my initial ignorance to geckos (or reptiles, period).
Oh, and I joined, too, because I posted some of my pictures of my geckos on some other boards I'm a member of. I was told our geckos are too thin. I had stated that my husband made the remark of how they're a little thinner than he liked them to be, and that he's going to have to feed them more often to fatten them up a little.
But he's very particular about how he wants his geckos to look. He believes they look closer to what leos would look like in the wild. He's had them for 8 years, and they have NEVER been ill. EVER.

I just learned last night how to tell the male apart from the females. My husband can tell all of them apart (they're his babies), but I cannot. I'm not experienced enough, and I have not paid enough attention (bad, I know). But the male has a "C" on his forehead.

He got them from a reptile show.

Let's see...what else...I cannot think of anything else to tell you all right now.
I just hope you all are nice, and that you are ok with the fact that I don't have much gecko knowledge at all.

Thanks for the welcomes!:D

Jordan, I'd love to post some of the pics, but I fear I'll be flamed for how thin they are, apparently.

When I took the shots, I had no idea that they were thin. I still think they look good, but others have told me they're too thin.
I am going downstairs to feed them some mealies in a few. I may snap some more shots then.:D

Welcome to the forum! It's nice that you're trying to take a more active role in the gecko care. There are a lot of members who's spouses despise reptiles. It's wonderful that you can be interested together!
