Hi,

Me and my partner are buying our 1st leo, he's not even home yet and we are already very confused! :main_huh:

We bought a starter kit at a pet store which came with a heat rock and were given sand as substrate but since reading on here 2day we now know this is not the right information.
Good thing we got the kit first so we didnt go to pick him up 2day. This gives us the chance to get the set up right before we go back to get him

Any advice appreciated.

Thanks

Welcome and congratulations on getting your first Leo!

Good for you for doing the research before you set him up. Heat rocks can be deadly.

As you already know, you need the under tank heat mat to cover apx. half of the bottom on the tank.
You'll also need a probe thermometer to put on the bottom of the hot side so you can monitor the temperature.
A rheostat is very helpful for adjusting the temperature of the heat mat.
You can use tile, paper, paper towel, or reptile carpet for substrate.
You'll need one regular hide and one humid hide, bowls for food, water, and calcium powder.

Check out the care sheets by clicking on "articles/caresheets" at the top of the screen. That should give you details about what you need to know with several different perspectives.
Welcome to GF.
