Hi,

I've had my Leo now for about a year, and she's been really good and no problem at all. She is kept alone, and eats normally.

Normally I open the door to her viv, and she'll come up to my hand and come out - but lately she hasn't been so keen on being near me, although she will come up to the door and have a little lick of my hand, she wont come out. I don't want to cause her stress by forcing her out.

She has a bowl of mealies in her viv, which she did show an interest in yesterday but not sure if she ate them. I think she's drinking fine too. She's housed alone, and hasn't been near males.

What can this mass be?

A tumor?
Fatty liver disease?
My suggestion would be to take her to the vet ASAP as NO one here can tell you 100% sure what that is. Even if they could you would still need to see the vet for treatment.
Please find a good Reptile vet to take her to. :)

Maybe retained eggs that didn't get reabsorbed? Virgin females can lay duds, and if they don't pass their eggs naturally or reabsorb them, they pile up in their belly. Only a vet can tell you. If those are eggs and she doesn't lay them, she could get egg bound (search the forum for "egg-binding,", which is very bad. Her tail doesn't look bad yet, so she seems strong enough to stand treatments... Good luck! Let us know how things develop...

I agree it looks like it could be an egg but also could be some sort of tumor. Either way she needs vet care immediately. Good luck and keep us posted!!

I'm not a vet, but it looks like an abdominal hernia. If that's the case, what you see poking out is the geckos intestines because there's a hole in the wall of muscle that usually keeps them in place. I had a gecko with this a few years ago. I took her to the vet and he said that if I can push the mass easily back into the abdomen then there were no "adhesions" and it should be OK. He was reluctant to operate because he was concerned about the gecko getting through the anesthesia. I obviously retired her from breeding immediately. I had her for about 2 more years and she did well, but then just died one night. I don't know if it was because of the hernia or not. She should still go to the vet so you get a qualified diagnosis.
