Hi! I was having bad luck getting a leopard gecko from my local pet store (one was a banded, other was very sick) so I ordered some babies from a classifieds ad on a forum. They just got here and one of the babies has a problem with her back legs. When she steps they turn inwards and she has a hard time walking. I don't know if this is a deformity or if they were broken when shipped. I'm so worried and don't know what to do. Could a vet even do anything if they are broken. She only weighs about 5 grams.

best thing to do is get some pics up of her walking to help get an idea of what it is. Unless the geckos were crushed in shipment I don't see how it could be broken legs. But a trip to the vet may be in order.

Shame on whoever shipped you a 5g gecko, that's really terrible. Bent legs can either be from MDD or even a birth defect. Do you have a photo? Did you see a photo of the gecko before they shipped it?

FIrst I'd get them set up and comfortable. Have you called the breeder to let them know? I'd feed and water them and make sure you have calcium to dust their food. See what the breeder has to say maybe they'll ship you another one. Good luck with them...Its a shame breeders try to pull one over on us.....

I did pick from photos but this one is not the same one thats in the pic. The shipping box was not damaged and there is no blood. It's just so pitiful. Here's a pic. Oh, and I emailed the seller but haven't heard back yet.

Ugh! What's with all these leopard geckos and unethical breeders? I mean seriously? 5 grams and MBD? Come on! ::end rant::

I'm sorry you have had such a terrible experiance. (I seem to be saying this quite a bit lately) It sounds as if your gecko could be suffering from a Metabolic Bone Disorder, but pictures or a video would help confirm. If this is the case, the animal will need calcium supplements most likely in the form of drops, it will need to be xrayed to evaluate bone density and or position, and the animal should never, ever be bred.

Then, call the breeder and see what they can do for you.

Will it ever be able to walk on them and live properly? I can't believe this, I'm ready to cry!

Well, with proper treatment, it might be able to live okay. It will most likely always be deformed, and will always need extra supplementation. This case in particular is extremely touchy since it's such a tiny little baby. Honestly, it really needs a good exam and some radiographs.

Looks like you were the unfortunate victim of a dump-and-run. I'm sorry about this. I really do hope you end up getting in touch with the seller, but don't keep your hopes up. This is a very common trend I am seeing lately. UGH!

PM me the name of this breeder.

can they get MBD at that age it looks verrrry young , is it possible a birth defect????? I just thought MBD takes a while to set in and to have it that severe at that young of age , dunno maybe just me =s poor baby though , very pretty otherwise

Yeah, they can get MBD that young. It's actually more common in the little ones. From what I understand, this situation is in the process of being worked out with the seller, who she ended up getting in touch with.
