Okay folks I am pretty sure my tiny little aft is ovulating
but the thing is I don't think she is going to lay fertile eggs as the last few were not, so will it hurt to let my male do his thang and fertilize those eggs or will that take more out of her than it would for her to lay duds
she is between 40 and 45 grams not too sure as I measure in ounces but she is 1.7 ounces and my male is 1.7 ounces and about 60 grams

Even though she is ovulating, if the male doesn't fertilize the eggs she will probably absorb the eggs before they form shells and will not lay at all. If she doesn't lay, she will not stress herself. If the male fertilizes her eggs she will probably lay them and they may or may not be fertile. 1.7 ounces is about 48 grams and it's usually recommended that, at least with leos, to wait till 50 grams. How old is she? If she is over a year old, it's probably safe to go ahead and let her breed. If she's under 8 months old, it's best not to let her breed yet. If she's 8-12 months, use your judgement. By the way I have a new AFT I got that's probably about 7-8 months old but only weighs 28 grams (pet store acquisition) and she's ovulating.

are you sure 1.7 ounces is 48
on the converter I use it says that 1 ounce = 28 grams and .7 = 19 grams
well she was at the pet shop from july - the first week of january so she is at least 8 months but I would say she's older
also why hasn't she gain any more than 8 grams since I got her, she eats about 8-10 crix a day plus a few waxies a week

bump I would really like some input on this as I can see the eggs through the belly when I put her in a clear dish
oh jeeze I have been mis calculating the males weight all along
I knew he lost some weight since I go him but not this much
I wish he weren't so picky (he only eats crix)

any idea on how to get him on to mealies?
