This is what I came home to today. I've tried soaking him in sugar water as well as donning latex gloves and, using KY jelly, pushing them back in. Nothing is working. My vet is closed for the weekend. I could take him to the vet of a major chain store, but I'd REALLY rather not. When I called for info the girl didn't even know they treated exotics. To me that is an indicator that they don't really have a lot of experience with herps.

So, my question is, what can I do? I have him on wet paper towels to keep it from drying out and sticking to various surfaces. What else can I do? Does anyone have any experience with this?

OH MY GOSH!! Rachel, Im so sorry, that looks horrible!! I would take him to that vet anyways(better than no vet), if they dont know what to do then just leave & dont let them do anything, maybe they could suggest some stuff?? Maybe try some neosporin on them? I really dont know what else to say, sorry I cant help more, gosh Im really sorry this happened, good luck with him & keep us updated on the poor little fella.

I believe you can also put Aloe based preparation H on there along with the soaking.

Thanks Nancy! I'll keep you posted. I'm trying to get an appointment for this weekend, but everyone's closed for the night. :(

Premier- Okay, thank. I'll try that!

Thanks for the info! I will get some Preparation H at the store today and give that a whirl. I'll continue with the baths.

Thanks for the article, very helpful. :)

Hey, I just got home from work. He's doing a little better. The swelling has gone down a bit and I'm trying the Prep H on him. I spoke to the vet today and they said to give it a few days. If it doesn't get better on its own, they I'll need to take him in and have it "tacked" - ouch... But he seems in good spirits considering his condition.

I actually had this happen to my male and I keep him on sugar water and had to eventually take him into the vet and they had to put a stitch in him. The also had given me anti inflammatory meds. The trick is to get the swelling down but you may need some meds if it is too irritated. Good Luck. I would suggest a vet though, just for a check up at least to make sure it goes back in properly.

I just discovered that my gecko has this, it's much less bloody and graphic than this case so that's why I didn't see it until now. He's had it for a few weeks. I will absolutely take him to the vet tomorrow or Friday, but until then, what should I do?

For soaking in sugar water, how much sugar do I put in how much water? Should the water be warm or room temperature?

He's fully recovered!

I stayed in touch with my vet throughout the home treatment and I'm happy to say that Oscar has made a FULL recovery. The last of the tissue receded Sunday- he's a man again. ;)

Basically, keeping the area moist with prep H and many good soaks in sugar water did the trick. It just took time. He was eating and pooping normally throughout the ordeal so I knew he wasn't suffering. I'm so glad I didn't make any rash decisions about his fate.
