Holiday with my gecko?

Spring break is this coming week and I had plans to go to St. Simons (a beach in GA, about a 3hr drive from my home) but unfortunately, If I can't find a way to transport my gecko with me then I doubt I'll be able to go. What would be the best way to transport my leo?

I don't want to stress her out too much by traveling with me but I don't want to have to leave her in my parents' care for the week. I'm not sure if it would be the best thing to do to just shove her off on them while I go relax at the beach.

So, its either find some way to transport her and her habitat or not go. I'd prefer to be able to go since moving back in with my parents has taken a toll on me with great stress, it would be nice to get away for the week without them looking over my shoulder.

Any ideas on the best way?

In my opinion, you should leave the gecko home. That sounds like a very stressful week for a gecko. Why do you want to bring her in the first place?

Leave him at home. Just get your parents to watch over him and make sure he has food and fresh water, and that the temps stay at a good range. As long as your setup is ok, your parents shouldn't have much resbonsibility with keeping an eye on him, since you will only be gone for a week.

I have often wondered what I will do when I go on vacations, as I have 5 geckos and will likely have more later this year. I have no one less than a half hour from me to watch them, and I would be really worried leaving them in the care of someone that doesn't really know what they are doing, definitely since a couple of mine have shedding problems and need help with every shed.

But as long as you only have the one and he/she doesn't have any problems that require constant obversation I think he will be ok staying with your parents (though I'm not sure how your parents feel about it). I just wouldn't recommend bringing him, as it would be too stressful, and it seems unecessary.

I would leave the gecko home. Traveling with your gecko will do more harm than good. usually they will go off of food once they have been moved around, have your parents give fresh water and food every other day. youll be back before you know it..:) :)

We pay a neighbor boy to watch our animals when we go on vacation. He's just as crazy about critters as I was when as a young lad so he actually likes caring for them.

I just show him step by step what to do, then I leave exact instructions for all our animals. When I can, I also pre-package the food for each day.

I have left adult geckos for a week at a time by putting in extra mealworms and getting someone to make sure the water bowls are filled. Maybe your parents would be willing to do that much? As far as staying healthy, one of my big males got out of the cage and was missing for 3 weeks. He was finally found in my downstairs neighbors' linen drawer, so I know he didn't have food or drink for that amount of time but he was (and is) fine.

Taking it anywhere and then bringing it back would be a lot of stress, it could stop eating for that entire time due to all the changes, leaving it at home would be better for it id think.

ok. ill have to talk to my parents about it but i guess it would be best to leave her at home. i feel kind of bad because they didnt consent to me getting her in the first place and they already have my dog i made them get 10 years ago and my dad's cat we've had for 17 yrs. i just didnt want them to have to take responsibility for her.

thanks guys. ill leave her at home

i like how you can hang out in knee deep water for yards from the beach then sit out on that sand bar. well that was years ago but i'm sure it's still like that in place.

I'd get one of the water dishes that is fed by a little water bottle. That would ease my mind about anyone forgetting to check on the water. Add an extra bowl of mealies. Be sure your humid hide is nice & moist before you go. Then I wouldn't be worried...OK, I'd call half way through the week. Have a great vacation!
