My boyfriend and I are purchasing a house that needs a few repairs, like a new roof, windows, ceiling repair, interior painting, and a few other things. What would you guys recommend doing with the reptiles?

We can move in during the repairs, which will just take a few days to so to fix, excluding interior paint.

I just worry about the reptiles.

What do you do when you're doing basic repairs? My parents repainted the living room, and we didn't worry about the reptiles, but that was on the other side of the house, we're repainting everything.

Congratulations on the new house! More than likely you won't get the whole interior painted in the same day so I would paint the gecko room first so it has time to dry and air out. If you use low or no VOC paint then I don't see why moving the geckos in the next day would be a problem. Exterior paint and repairs won't bother them. We learned by experience that the more repairs you can get done before you move anything in the better. You end up being more motivated to work fast and get things done. We got more projects done in the week after we bought our house and before we moved in than we have in the last 3 years. lol Have fun!

Thanks! We're excited.

We were told the roof and ceiling repairs will be a few days, estimated of course. The windows and can be put in while that's going on. My boyfriend's stepdad is a contractor, so he's running the show. We just have to pay for supplies and basic labor, no up-charges.

I'm trying to convince my boyfriend to just move in after the repairs. He's not liking the idea. Personally, I'd rather just wait to move in after they're done with the outside repairs.

I can't blame him, new houses are exciting!! I wanted to move into our house the day we got the keys but we kind of had to wait until we got the flooring replaced and it was better to paint before that so I was forced to wait. Hopefully once he starts working he'll get focused on that and be too busy to think about moving at the same time. Make sure you take lots of before and after pictures!

I think I've finally gotten him to wait a week or two to move in after the construction and painting. It's just easier to wait, in my opinion.

I will take pictures, although most of the changes will be roof and ceiling. We are painting and want to redo the kitchen, second bathroom, and floors (pull up carpet and replace with hardwood), but money will be a restraint. For now, I'm happy with just replacing and fixing what needs to be, and as we can alter the rest of the house.

I really want hardwood, but a real good deep cleaning of the carpet will be fine till we can replace it. Same with updating the kitchen, redoing the countertops, cabinets, and appliances. I'll say the kitchen is going to look funny for a while with a new stainless refrigerator and other little appliances with an older dishwasher and stove, but it'll be livable.

Oh, and I'd like to put drywall or something over the brick interior wall where the fireplace is. I'm just not a fan of the way it looks.

Congrats on the new house! I wish I could remodel my kitchen but for right now ill be happy with the downstairs bathroom. haha The contractor is coming over today to get started and im so excited! Good luck with your home improvements and like Mel said before/after pics would be awesome! I'm going to try and take enough pics so that the project looks like a flip-book or time lapse. Easier said then done though I suppose haha Once again, congrats and well wishes! :main_thumbsup:
