With getting married coming up in August and plans for a family & house my fiance convinced me to stop getting stepped on at work and go out and find a new job.

I posted up a resume a while back but wasnt actively looking due to having to work 12 hour days 6 days a week.

Out of nowhere a day after our conversation I get a call from a head hunter in regards to a advanced help desk position. Although it would be a major step down in responsibilities compared to what I do now the slight increase in pay and the possibility of working normal hours peaked my interest.

Anways, I just had a phone interview with 5 managers from the same company and the head honcho ended up liking me so much he now wants me to come in for a face to face for the supervisor position which would pay almost 3 times what I am making now.

He mentioned that from the 2 hour interview over the phone he already knows that I am a person he would like to have working for him. I just need to overcome some technical barriers (SQL) but they are willing to be patient if I can show that I am able to learn.

So I have a face to face with the regional director of their north east division next week.

If all goes well I think life will finally start to fall into place (financially that is ... the personal stuff couldnt be any better)

Wish me luck!

Congrats on a great phone interview. I highly recommend getting a book on SQL now so that when you go in, you can tell them you are already working on learning it. Best of luck with both the new job & your final months of wedding planning.

Thank you everyone ...

Yeah the guy said that he was THE hiring manager but he wanted me to come in for the face to face so that his two associates can talk to me as well. He said although he is ultimately the one making the decision he did value the input of the other two.

He said to pick up a quick book to just get a general understanding to prepare me for any technical questions his associates may have. But other than that he said to just be myself (like how i was on the interview) and there shouldn't be any problems.

He recommended a book titled something like "how to ace a technical interview" and talked about a time he interviewed and knew nothing about the product but was able to wing it from remembering the questions from the book.

Anyways, I am not going to count my chickens before they hatch as I have been sold the cinderalla story before. But this is the first time that I have had direct input from the hiring manager as opposed to what was heard through the head hunter.

The interview is next week sometime ... so hopefully I should be prepared by then. Im not too worried, most of my techical knowledge is from certification prep books anyways (mcse, a+, network+, linux, unix, etc..)

Interviews always make me nervous, but you seem like you are pretty calm and collected about it, so I think that you will do great!!

So I came in yesterday to meet the director and a couple of the managers there. Ended up doing interviews for about 4 hours at the place (which is a good thing I believe).

lol, one of the managers I was speaking with had me play some video game where there is a group of people on one side of the river and the goal is to get them all across to the other side.

The trick is that certain people cannot be left alone, certain people cannot be left with certain people, and certain people will cross with certain people. Basically it was logic game.

this is something similar to what I played there. Anyways, he gave me 15 minutes to finish it or get as far as I can. I finished it in 5...

Anyways, the face to face went really well. Now I am at the final step which is to come in on June 11 to take some sort of 3 hour logic test and meet with the vice president of the company.

One of the managers said that it was about unanimous between the managers that I get the thumbs up. The only potential road block is whether or not I pass this test which they are intentionally keeping me in the dark about as the point I guess is to see how well I think.

Also, assuming I pass the test, depending on my score is what will determine what kind of offer they will make me.

.. .. .. ..

The only hint I may have gotten about this test. One of the managers talked about a test he took when he got hired there .... is some sort of technical logic test that was developed by some professor in brooklyn collge which is also being used at IBM for all of their hiring.

Actually I do not know if this is something I would be able to study or prepare for...

If anyone has any input or knows of any site/book that may be able to help better prepare for it I would really appreciate it.

wish me luck ... I guess they want to see if I can actually offer more than the old pooka charm.

Thanks ... one of the managers and the headhunter said that pretty much either the day of or day after I take that test is when I should find out either

a) yes or no to hiring
b) if yes, salary offer
