I think it depends on the gecko. I keep my male with females throughout the breeding season. The males usually stop trying to mate with the females by early summer. I have one female who has bred successfully every year for the past 5-6 years, keeps her weight up and produces a decent number of healthy hatchlings. I have another female who did fine in 2013 and then in 2014 seemed to lose weight and strength by the middle of the season. She is going to retire after this season because it seems that breeding took quite a toll on her, but I wouldn't have been able to predict how she did in 2014 after 2013. The other female is probably going to retire as well because she's getting older and I"m cutting back a bit on production.
